I heard that Jackknifed Juggernaut is looking to sell his tickets.
Man, the upcoming QF match between Mexico and Chile may end up being the match of the tournament… at the very least it’ll be ridiculously entertaining.
All right, what are your predictions:
I predict:
USA over Ecuador
Argentina over Venezuela
Mexico over Chile
Colombia over Peru
Argentina over USA
Colombia over Mexico
And then, Argentina over Colombia.
I’d agree except Mexico over Colombia.
The US is having some major mental lapses in this Ecuador match. Jones and Wood will miss next match based on idiotic decisions. Bedoya will miss too, but for a more reasonable yellow. That is if they can hold on…
Ecuador had the better of the play on average, but US advances. Old man Dempsey is having a hell of a tournament.
Wanted to make sure I mentioned Brooks on this list. Yes, yes I did. He’s a monster.
That was a foolish, foolish fight for Jones to get into. Now they’re short Jones, as well as Wood and Bedoya, against Argentina.
I haven’t been able to watch a game end-to-end, how has Guzan done?
WOW, by far the greatest win of Klinsmann’s career! Well done with moving Johnson to the right and having Besler on the left. Fantastic performance! But next game (likely against Argentina) is going to have a ton of juggling of the lineup.
But yes, what in the world was Jones thinking? You don’t ball your hand into a fist when you are tapping someone’s face, even if it’s the lightest tap in the world.
They just sold on stubhub. I broke even, which is better than I expected. kinthalis: You should check stubhub. Tickets in my section 124 are still available at $260 or so. It’s actually a very good view if you get a row lower than 30. I sat in that exact same section during a Brazil-Argentina friendly about 4 years ago and saw Messi score a hat trick. Watching the bend on his last goal from my seats was amazing. It was a thing of beauty.
Certainly not to people living in South America. And considering that the Copa started in 1916 while the Euros in 1960, I’d have to give the tie breaker to the former.
Guzan looked fine last night. No chance on the goal or the near-misses, and he came out and grabbed a couple good loose balls, but no real challenges either.
I wouldn’t say Ecuador had the better of it the whole match – U.S. was mostly controlling things before the second goal and red cards. Ecuador definitely did better the last 30 minutes or so, and probably deserved another goal out of their pressure, but the U.S. win wasn’t a fluke or undeserved.
The red card on Jones was ridiculous. Either referee had a really bad angle and didn’t see what really happened (in which case, he shouldn’t be red-carding), he was trying way too super-hard to implement the new rule, or he was just too chicken to give a deserved red card to one side without finding a way to make it up. There was an equal amount of instigation and pushing and shoving by both sides, just Jones’ hand ended up a couple inches higher than the Ecuadoran pushing him.
If Jones should get kicked out for that by the strict absolute letter of the law, then so should the Ecuadoran who came over and touched Dempsey’s face while he was down
Jones balled his hand into a fist while tapping the Ecuadorian. I have no issues with that being a red.
Thanks!
Look, any time you reach out and push someone’s face you run the risk of getting a red card, particularly in a game that’s turning chippy*, particularly if someone on the other team just got a red (to your point above), and whether you meant to or not. It’s just what happens, and he knows that.
The big irony is that it looks like he starts off trying to calm things down…

Good result for the USA,. Though I feel getting past Argentina might be too much of a tall order, whatever happens now the tournament has been a successful one for the USA.
Yes - from a certain perspective the way this turned out is perfect for the US. Nobody will be surprised if they go out to Argentina, especially with the missing players, so probably the tournament will be seen as a success now no matter what.
Holy shit, Messi to Higuain, that was the goal of the tournament for me.
Argentina’s defense looks like trash, the US should get some chances against them, especially with 4 days rest vs 2.
My grandma could kick a penalty better than that Venezuelan player.
And she’s been dead these last 10 years or so.
Mexico-Chile should be best game of QF’s. Defending champs against a team that hasn’t lost in a year.
