I thought Cops was canceled years ago? Wasn’t this show on in the 90’s? I still watch the repeats once in awhile.
Anyway, a crewman got caught in a crossfire. The suspect had a BB gun. There’s no doubt that the cops killed the crewman.
This sound guy should have been standing next to the cops they were filming. How did he get hit? Were the cops he was with in danger of a friendly fire incident?
The suspect was armed with the BB gun-style weapon and was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and white bandanna during the robbery, police said.
Det. Darren Cunningham, 37, was first on scene and the 10-year veteran called for “expedited” backup, Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said. Partners Brooks Riley, 35, and 39-year-old Jason Wilhelm, both 4-year veterans, responded to the scene.
The junior officers had the “Cops” crew embedded with them.
All three officers opened fire after approaching the robbery suspect from opposite doors inside the restaurant.
Crewmembers of the popular TV show, which embeds cameras as police patrol city streets across the country, wear bulletproof vests during filming. The chief said the fatal bullet that struck Dion hit near his left armpit where there is an opening in the vest.
This is already being discussed in the Pit–which is a more appropriate place:
I’m not mad or angry enough for a pit thread.
Can’t we discuss this calmly? It’s a tv show that had a tragic accident while filming.
No I doubt that we can discuss it calmly. I would suggest a broader thread about safety in filming. For example does anyone here remember Vic Morrow’s death?
On July 23, 1982, a Bell UH-1 Iroquois helicopter crashed at Indian Dunes in Valencia, California, United States, during the making of Twilight Zone: The Movie. The crash killed actor Vic Morrow and child actors Myca Dinh Le and Renee Shin-Yi Chen, who were on the ground, and injured the six helicopter passengers. The incident led to years of civil and criminal action against the personnel overseeing the shoot, including director John Landis, and the introduction of new procedures and safety s...
It was only a matter of time before a reality show got too real.
Wasn’t there a show about revealing cheaters out in public? I think the host was stabbed in the very first episode.
The show cheaters is still on in syndication. Started in 2000.
And it’s entirely scripted. Not too long ago, there was a post on the Dope about a guy that was hired to play the “dude scorned” in one episode.
I refuse to watch it after that (though God knows why I ever deigned to watch it in the first place)! :smack:

recall the thread or name?
From the updated news report in the OP’s link,
They were firing towards each other, with the suspect between them?
obviously they never watched Ronin
So has anyone here worked in a fast food place? I personally wouldn’t expect a Wendy’s to have enough cash to be worth robbing.
Ah, the good old fashioned circular firing squad…
