This is one of those stories that I wish to hell I hadn’t read…but now that I have, I’ve just got to pit these fucking trigger-happy cops.

The basics of the story:
-Newfie breaks out of fenced yard, while owners were out of town for night.
-Cops are called, find dog sitting in its own yard.
-Cops discuss ways to get dog off street - decide to taze it!?!
-Dog, obviously, runs away after being tazed.
-Cops, now thinking this is some kind of hunting video game, chase dog around Des Moines neighborhood (this is near Seattle).
-Cops taze him again. Again the dog runs away.
-Cops find dog in a neighbor’s yard and shoot it four times with an assault rifle.
-One cop can be heard on the video saying “nice!” when they first shoot the dog.
-Cops actions are later found “justified.” Of course they are.
I don’t know what to say. This story just makes me sick and angry.
FYI - the actual shooting happened a couple years ago, but the dog’s owners just filed a suit and this was the first I’d heard about it.
It didn’t look justified, but to be fair, the short video was edited for time, so I don’t know what else may have happened that influenced the cops’ actions.
That video is from Commerce City, Colorado and happened just a few days ago. This article is about a shooting in Des Moines, Washington (close to Seattle) that happened two years ago.
A newfie? Other than being BIG and epic drool machines, they’re usually about the least threatening dogs ever. Animate teddybears. Granted I’m sure individual exceptions exist, but still - I can’t imagine being intimidated by one.
I imagine this is just a lame attempt at humor, but the police actually did shoot him once, in the leg, and just injured him, then they shot him three more times and killed him.
Try tazing one a couple of times and chasing him around the neighborhood! Now you’ve got a proper crazed dog that needs some shootin’!! It takes a bit of work, but you can get there.
It’s in the article. The police tried to contact animal control, but it was in the evening, on a weekend, and the guy didn’t immediately respond…so the cops took it into their own hands.
Why do you guys always have to make such a big fucking deal about this stuff?
Old lady is wrongly targeted by police officers and shot to death. Big deal! It was a simple mistake, and old lady had a gun so she had it coming. Some random innocent dude gets killed by police barging into his home instead of waiting for a time when he exits the home or even verifying the address. Cry me a river. These fine officers were already fully suited in their warrior gear. Something HAD to go down. Boys will be boys and all that.
And this, well, maybe it’s a bit of a stretch to kill a dog sitting peacefully in his owner’s yard, but it was just a few bad apples. This is not at all an institutional problem. It’s just like 2 bad officers, who get shuffled around every police district in the country.
Yeah, 'cause it’s not like anyone else ever makes mistakes resulting in folks getting wounded or killed, right? Fucking cops. I mean, we have dozens of such reports where cops made mistakes (or just like torturing a poor innocent dog with tazers then hunting it down like, er, a dog)…maybe even HUNDREDS!! :eek: And how many incidents do these cops respond to in a small country like ours every year, anyway? They should be more careful and considerate…the rat bastards!
