OK, so what’s the accepted spelling for the effect when individual pixels can be clearly seen on the screen:
pixelation or pixellation?
And the adjectival form: pixelated or pixellated?
A google search seems to indicate that both spellings are used, with the single “l” variant clearly more common than the double “l.”
The dictionaries don’t help on this one, and the stylebooks I have (AP and Chicago) don’t have anything on this matter.
I do know there’s a movie technique called “pixilation,” but that’s a type of stop-motion and is not applicable here.
If anyone can cite a technical stylebook, that’d be lovely.
