I wish to acquire a copy of a very old TV broadcast. My father was featured on an episode of ‘To Tell The Truth’ in the summer of 1963. I have had very little luck finding out how (or if it is even possible) to get a hold of an old broadcast.
The original show was a Mark Goodson/Bill Todman Production and the copyright now belongs to FreeMantle Media. I have contacted them through their website twice and have not received a response.
What is the best way to get a copy of an old tv show? Is this even possible?
I would echo the previous post and hope to find out the date that the show originally aired and then see if you can grab it through your VCR when it’s on the Game Show Network. I would think the chances of the producers selling you a copy are practically nil.
Thanks for the responses. The Game Show Network does currently rerun the show at 4am every morning. The problem is that the show had a long run and I am not patient/dedicated enough to check it every day. I was hoping there was an easier way.
Not to be flippant, but this is why God made VCRs with timers. It wouldn’t take much to check a week’s worth of episodes. You would soon be able to tell which year they were in at least.
Send the copyright owner a polite letter, or call them on the phone, and ask for their licensing division. I’ve gotten copies of old television shows several times, and found that telephone calls work the best, while e-mail is the least effective.
