Cora Sue Collins: Last of the pre-Code actors

One of the most femininely beautiful and charming child actresses of the 1930s. I’ve always preferred her to Shirley Temple. And of course Cora Sue has achieved the ultimate revenge over her old rival Temple as she’s substantially outlived her.

I found this to be a rather odd thread. It seemed very random considering it’s not an RIP thread. It’s also incorrect. Billy Watson was in seven features and one short between 1930-34 and appears to be alive. Mildred Korman was in 4 shorts during the same period and is alive. I did not do an exhaustive search, so there might be others.

Yet, the oddest thing for me is that I just watched a Cora Sue Collins movie two days ago, The Sin of Nora Moran (1933), wherein Miss Collins played the main character as a young girl. I did not think she was very good in it. The movie itself, though, was distinguished by unexpectedly dynamic direction, avant-garde narrative techniques and arty montages as it tried to capture the main character’s “opiate”-fueled perspective in flashbacks as she awaits execution for a crime she didn’t commit. It was a very unusual film and not just for its era. It can be seen on YT.

As for Miss Collins, she comes off quite well in this piece from Feb., 2020.

Here’s an IMDB list of still-living actors who were active in the 1930s, including Olivia De Havilland, who is now 103. I’m kind of partial to Marilyn Knowlden, who was in “Angels With Dirty Faces”.
