I am looking to buy a cordless dustbuster for my wife for Christmas (how romantic, I know, but I’ve got other things on my list to give her as well), and I am looking for reccommendations. I have checked reviews on epinions and amazon, and see two that look good, the Black and Decker 14.4 volt one and a Shark one (don’t have a model, but it comes with a powered roller-brush attachment).
Soes anyone have experience with either of these? We’re going to use it for keeping the fireplace hearth free of little wood bits that tend to get scattered about when bringing in wood oir loading it into the fireplace.
I have had a few Black & Decker Dustbusters (BTW, Dustbuster is a TM of B&D) and the performance is good but I’ve found that battery life is limited. I have three in my house right now that won’t take a charge any longer, and I replaced the batteries in a couple of them a few years back. I don’t know what the company claims as far as battery life.
I got a Dustbuster for the Parrot. 220v, the most powerful one in the shop. It is great, feathers and fuss are now fun to clean up. Next I must train the bird to sit still I while I apply the Dustbuster directly to the source of the problem. That should improve efficiency.
On the other hand, B&D provides poor service. I went to their website to get some of the filters for the thing. They replied by sending me a list retailers in the US and Canada. Idiots.
I’ve had a Shark Euro-Pro cordless hand vac for about a year now and I love it. I leave it in my car and bring it in whenever it needs recharging. Battery life is about 15 minutes which is good for about three car cleanings, and suction is very powerful. The attachments allow me to get into the little nooks and crannies of my car, and the brush attachment does a great job on the carpet mats. Highly recommended. The DustBuster I had several years ago doesn’t even compare.
Black and Decker has a new model that says it uses vortex technology.
This means that the bucket collects dust more directly without baffles, and that it can be emptied without reaching into the collection area to remove the baffle.
Sounds like a definite improvement.
By the way, for your anniversary I recommend a Scum Buster, which is a battery charged cleaning brush. Saves your back and makes short work of cleaning the tub and grout.
Actually, the Dyson handheld vac gets very very very shitty reviews. People spend the Dyson-inflated price expecting superior performance, and it doesn’t deliver.
