Cordless phone battery question

Help! Damsel in distress! Right.

Can I use a Ni-Cad 3.6V 700mAh battery for a cordless phone that specifies Ni-Cad 3.6V 600 mAh ? I’ve been searching forever for a battery, so decided to try the 700. When I inserted it, lights started blinking & a high pitch squeal sounded. Maybe I should continue to search for the 600. The prongs fit, so I thought it might work.

Thanks for any help.

The MAH is Milli Ampere Hours. That’s the Capacity of the battery.

Should be fine! Are you sure the prongs fit the right way around?
Try Unplugging the phone, and re-plugging it back in.

The squeal maybe due to feedback. That is if you have a speaker phone and you kept the speaker and the remote unit both on at the same time and near to each other - it will prolly sqeak if there’s any sound,

The battery sounds fine - make sure you have the polarity correct.

Thank you so much, ** PhilAlex ** and andy_fl. I have the phone now recharging, & I’ll see what happens in the morning. I had stopped at an electronics store today, but they were out of one they said would fit. It was only 300 mAh. Then I found this one at Best Buy. Twice the price! But after looking up Milli Ampere Hours (thanks PhilAlex), I see that it has more power. Or that’s the way I interpret all of this. Thank you again, gentlemen (or am I assuming again?). I will sleep well tonight.

And to all, a good night!
