I have a GE cordless phone 5.8GHz that came with a base, charger stand, and 2 handsets. Purchased in 2008.
The handset on the base is in the living room and works fine.
The guest bedroom has a charger stand and the 2nd handset. This handset has gotten stuck “searching” several times and won’t work. Unplugging the battery pack, waiting 30 seconds and reinstalling the battery fixes the problem.
Any ideas why this phone is doing this?
It’s a pain in the butt when the phone rings and the hand set is stuck searching. We have to dash through the house to use the one in the living room.
Ir seems to mess up if that handset isn’t used for a few weeks. My mom comes to visit and it’s stuck again in “searching” mode.
What happens if you swap the handsets?
I haven’t tried that yet. My phone numbers are saved in the living room handset.
I’m going to reenter all those numbers into the other handset and then make the switch.
I’m wondering if the battery pack needs replacing. I noticed it was only half charged. But its been sitting in its charger stand in that bedroom unused for weeks. It should be showing full.
Those battery packs are ridiculous too. Around 12 to $14 at Radio Shack. About $25 to replace the battery packs in both handsets. The entire GE cordless system only cost $55 at Walmart in 2008.
Yeah, I was going to ask about the battery. If they are original, they are probably close to the end of their service life.
I agree about the cost, they’re like buying ink cartridges for a $49 printer.
