I’ve been in many busy places with lots and lots of security and rushing and crowds and the like and have never been grabbed. Nor would I go into the crowded space and think “Welp, I’m likely to get grabbed while I’m in there.” Inadvertent touching, such as getting bumped or squeezed, sure. Not grabbing. If I were grabbed and I could identify who did it, I wouldn’t just shrug it off.
I’m not defending Lewandowski’s action. Charges have been filed and Lewandowski is now entitled to his day in court. The internet can debate the issue all they wish but the internet isn’t a courtroom. It’s a she says, he says, the judge rules world.
Gruppenfuher Click was caught on camera calling for muscled storm troopers to defend the fortress of solitude she built on public campus grounds. Click has already plead guilty to the charges against her. Click is guilty. The university then chose to kick Glick’s anti-free speech ass out of, and off, their campus.

Yes, THAT edited video may or may not show the reporter manhandling Trump. It’s difficult to tell without watching all of the videos available. Which Lewandowski’s defense attorney may ask the court to do?
Meanwhile, reporters who wish to work for media outlets are a dime a dozen. Lose one and there will be two dozen who want the job. This particular reporter decided to become a part of the story. Probably not a smart career move??? If she wanted to resign, Breitbart probably wanted her to leave. Buh-bye. This is Mary. She’ll be taking your place. Don’t forget to leave your ID on the way out.
This does feel a little like a tempest in a teapot. But I don’t think it’s Fields who did the escalating, it’s Trump and Lewandowski (not to mention Breitbart for not supporting Fields). Were I in her shoes, I’d have been happy to receive a simple, private apology. Given what’s happened instead, I would probably press charges at this point as well.
In addition to Richard Parker’s detailed answer, Lewandowski is likely to take a credibility hit from this. Although Trump supporters aren’t going to care one way or another, so that’s not likely to hurt him much. I had assumed that CarnalK was simply referring to his case being hosed due to the video evidence.
He works for Trump, how much credibility does he have?
After you’ve been here a while you start to notice certain patterns in discussions of this kind, where a highly partisan person is desperately trying to downplay a probably criminal act by Their Side.
One is the ol’ “well you guys aren’t a court, so what you say doesn’t matter” ploy - have any of us said we will ultimately decide this issue? Do any of us show any signs of failing to understand that a court will have the final say? No, we are just shooting the breeze about the probable outcome. Sucks for you that the probable outcome is what you would like, but telling us we aren’t a court isn’t going to change that.
Another ploy is the “well the victim shouldn’t complain because now they are going to suffer sanction, so there” angle. Which is a pretty charming attitude to state the obvious. And I’m not really sure how it’s supposed to excuse the conduct of Your Guy.
It was the same sort of thing with the Lance Armstrong debate. It was the same thing with Jeremy Clarkson.
Apparently both Buzzfeed and Fox News published Michelle Fields’s home address.
Gruppenfurher? Storm troopers? Really? You realize that playing the Nazi card doesn’t exactly strengthen your argument.:dubious:
So, if Lewandowski pleads guilty or is convicted in a court of law, will you call him a gruppenfurher or storm trooper, or will you rationalize that his alleged manhandling of a journalist is somehow different from Click’s.
Slight tug? She was yanked off balance and it left bruises.
Feel free. This issue hit the interwebs, and people dug up the view that confirms her story. Surely all of those videos are available to show the supposed manhandling that she gave Trump.
As for the idea that she could be charged, perhaps she could, but there’s a substantial difference between touching his arm/brushing his sleeve and yanking her off balance.
With regards to the Secret Service having already told her to stay back from Trump, wouldn’t it be their job to enforce that, not some random staffer?
It may be a case where Lewandowski can argue a positive defense on those grounds. It’s still a dick move, and thoroughly asshat of Trump to deny, disparage, and refuse to admit what is right there for us all to see. And Lewandowski denied it happened at first, even though he clearly knew he grabbed her.
And Breitbart don’t look very good, trying to stifle their staff. Regardless of what the outcome of the investigation ended up.

Who is this “we” you keep referring to? Just to clarify, who do you represent other than yourself?
You may notice highly partisan persons desperately trying to convince others that a heinous crime has been committed by someone else and, in this case, it must always be Trump’s fault.
Since the reporter has decided to file charges, it’s now up to the reporter to prove that she was bruised during the encounter. It will be up to the defense (Lewandowski is still entitled to a defense, isn’t he?) to point out that the reporter shouldn’t have been where she was. The press conference was over. The (pushy?) reporter chose to pursue and grab Trump. (Oh My! Sounds like another case of battery.?!)
Got video?
Hahahaha. The reporter will be given a chance to convince a judge, or jury, that she was actually bruised during the encounter. More than her word may be required.
What do you expect to happen to Lewandowski? Life in prison? Public caning?
Will a judge rule that the reporter hasn’t proven that Lewandowski’s action could have caused that specific bruising? Will the judge rule that because the reporter knew she shouldn’t have been where she was, and because she shouldn’t have been manhandling the candidate, and that Lewandowski was simply attempting to protect Trump, that this is simply a case of no harm, no foul? Except on the internet, of course, where it will live on in perpetuity.
Click plead guilty. Click was recorded during her repeated attempts at stifling free speech. She’s the one demanding that the photographer leave a public space. She’s the one who was recorded requesting muscled thugs to prevent freedom of the press. The muscled thugs were recorded preventing freedom of press. Click was immediately dropped from one of the universities departments due to her actions, Click plead guilty to the charges against her, and Click was eventually fired.
Got a warrant?
Ask the media, or building security, for the entire video. Or all of the security videos.
Who sez Breitbart (the company) tried to stifle their staff? The people who quit?
How, specifically, did Breitbart try to stifle their staff?
Women bruise much easier than men do, something some men have trouble understanding. I used to never really bruise, even in my martial arts classes it took a lot to bruise me. I bruise all the freaking time now.
Of course it’s going to take more than her word. It might also take, for instance, video of the incident, or a photo of her bruises.
I expect Leandrowski to have his day in court. And if he’s found not guilty, I expect him to go free.
None of which has anything to do with what my question was.
Would anyone who thinks what Cory Leandrowski is accused of doing is no big deal also like to defend Melissa Click?
Please notice that I said “what Cory Leandrowski is accused of doing.” I never said he was guilty of anything.
For the record, I am alumni of the University of Missouri School of Journalism. My opinion is that Melissa Click couldn’t have been fired fast enough. I’m happy that she agreed to a plea bargain to save the time and expense of a trial, but I would have been happier if the bargain included her spending a little time in jail. Going forward, I hope Melissa Click is never hired for another academic position. Is my position clear enough?
So if Leandrowski is found guilty of simple battery against a reporter, that would make him “a muscled thug preventing freedom of the press.” What punishment do you feel would be appropriate for him?
He’ll bargain the charges down. Reduced capacity!
(post shortened)
The possibility exists that the reporter will drop the charges. It’s also possible that a judge will find there is insufficient evidence that Lewandowski’s grip could have caused the bruise.
If things were different, things would be different. You haven’t provided any proof that Lewandowski would be, IF he’s found guilty, a muscled thug preventing freedom of the press. The reporter was given the opportunity to ask questions of the candidate during the scheduled press conference. Access for freedom of the press would have been satisfied. The reporter chose to continue questioning Trump, and maybe wanted a chance to touch the Donald.
You’re the one who wanted to compare Lewandowski’s action to Click’s. I thought it would be useful to highlight Click’s anti-free speech actions and her criminal career.
Click refused to allow media access on public space, and summoned muscled thugs to prevent freedom of the press. Gorilla/Guerrilla, either way Click fucked up big time.
As an insider, why did it take so long for the University of Missouri Board of Curators to fire Click? Why didn’t any member of the UM request a hearing to consider Click’s anti-free speech actions?
The victim can’t drop the charges in a criminal case. Only the prosecutor can, though the decision could certainly be influenced by the attitude of the purported victim.
