I’m trying to avoid high fructose corn syrup in my diet.
So, I had to go through several Light Ben & Jerry’s ice creams tonight at the store to find the one that didn’t have corn syrup. Not high fructose corn syrup, just corn syrup.
Is there a difference? Can I eat all the Light Ben & Jerry’s with abandon?
A diet high in fructose or sucrose is supposed to have detrimental health effects. Pure corn syrup is mainly glucose, not fructose. I am not a doctor. Trying to cut back on HFCS while eating other sweets with abandon does not seem like a good strategy.
According to www.nutritiondata.com, 1 oz of high fructose corn syrup has 79 calories, as does light corn syrup. Dark corn syrup has 80 calories. I’m assuming the ice cream contains light syrup.
