Coronation Watch-Along Thread

Apparently Anne nipped out a side-door and jumped on a horse, fairly typical behaviour for her.

Yep. She is leading the guard.

Wow, some of the shots of the procession are gorgeous.

Mounties!!!

Giving the King a horse

The gold carriage looks unstable. It josltles around more than the others. Is there a video somewhere about how it is stored and maintained?

QE2 said it was the worst ride ever. Made her seasick.

Seeing the flags of the Realms… and wondering how long many of those will be part of the line-up.

Apparently there is no suspension whatsoever in it. It’s a very rough ride.

See that nifty manoeuvre to cut 12 ranks to 6?

You tube has quite a few. I believe the instability is due to not having modern shock absorbers.

You can see the attempt at a suspension in that long flat black piece that comes under the carriage and then over the front wheels. But the coach weighs over two tons, so it just can’t accomplish much.

That explains a lot. I’m surprised nothing has fallen off.

It only gets used a couple of times a century.

One would think that would give time for very cleverly concealing some sort of smoothing mechanism. But, hey, authenticity y’know.

That’s the engineering of 1762 for you!

Having to ride in that carriage did make me feel a bit of sympathy for Charles and Camilla. That must have been a rough ride for 2 people in their mid 70’s.

I hope massage is on the agenda today.

A large G & T more like.

Leather vs hydraulics.

The princess royal has a fun hat.

I just got a better look, and the black things are straps of some sort. I can’t imagine what they could make them with that would be strong enough?

Leather! Just leather; real leather, not vegan.

The huge coach is seven metres long, 3.6 metres tall, weighs four tonnes, and needs eight horses to draw it. Because of its age and how heavy it is, it is only ever used at a walking pace.
