Damn. At least his parents have some closure now. 14 years–after that long and where he disappeared, the only conclusion to be reached would be that he died, but to not find a body. It’s awful.

How or why could that be funny? Not trying to get into a debate, I’m just trying to see the incongruity or what have you that could make it funny.
I interpreted it as the idea that it could have been a homicide is so unlikely, that it is funny. Not the act itself.
