Cosmetic Dentistry

Hi.

I am greatly considering cosmetic dentistry and I wonder if some of you had it done or know of a few associates that have.

I want to get my 2 front teeth fixed. Now I know there is bonding and procelain veneers as 2 different alternatives. Veneers being the better one (but more expensive).

Do any of you know the general cost of these? Cheifly bonding because it’s allegedly one appointment and inexpensive compared to veneers.

I really want to get this done but the fees can’t be unattainable especially concerning my financial circumstances. I know it varies from each area (I live in Canada) but I want to know if it’s worth it and what was the price that you or either a friend had to pay.

Thanks.

I have a bonded front tooth. It has cost me between $50-120 to have it done, depending on which area of the country I’m living in that week. Much cheaper than veneers, but much lower quality work, as well. Stains easily, chips easily. I’ve been having this same tooth bonded basically every time I can afford it for 20 years now.
I’m saving for my veneers.
Ah, and other issue cost-wise with veneers, they will definitely recommend you get more than the two done. One of the pros with bonding is the colour choices are much more diverse. They usually advise getting at least eight done.

In my experience, of course.

Nymysys, $50 - 120 dollars? If that’s it I could attain bonding easily. Okay, so they constantly chip and what have you…but do you really take proper care of them? And how long does it take them to chip on you?

I once had one last six years, but that was phenomenal. Usually it lasts around three to six months for chipping. The discolouration starts fairly quickly for me, though. Within a couple of months or so. Please do note, I’m a smoker. Although I use whitening toothpaste and all that jazz, I do understand that’s obviously a factor. Bonding is infinitely more porous than veneers, so if you drink coffee/tea, smoke, or indulge in any other stain-making habits, the bonded teeth will definitely turn colour much more quickly than your natural teeth.

As far as taking care of them, I make sure to not catch a patch of pavement with my face anymore, which is how I got in this situation in the first place. Other than that, considering it’s my front tooth, there’s not a helluva lot special I can do. Having had it for as many years as I have, I’ve trained myself to bite things off (celery, carrots, etc.) from the side of my mouth, rather than the front. I usually cut up apples and things of that sort rather than crunching into them. That’s all I can think of.

As a financially depressed person myself, I can’t say I don’t recommend bonding, I can just say to get it done, and save your pennies for the better, more long-lasting, more expensive version.

Oh, I see you smoke that’s why. Well hopefully the prices here are the same as they were for you than perhaps I could get it this weeknend…

Thanks for the info, Nymysys, it was of a great help. I think I could take care of them really well, afterall, I’ve been waiting for like years…

Bump. Just want to see if there’s more people so I could get a better gist of the price range on an individual basis.

I had porcelain veneers done on my four front teeth about a year and a half ago. I absolutely love them. I recently had my six month check up and a new hygenist in my dentist’s office was going on and on about how beautiful my teeth were. It was not until she started cleaning the back of my teeth that she realized they were veneers.

I am told the veneers cost approximately $800.00 per tooth. I got lucky as my dentist is also a friend of mine and after a few too many glasses of champagne on New Year’s Eve a couple of years ago, he agreed to do my teeth for free. If he wasn’t such a pushover, I would have gladly paid to have the veneers done anyway. Its well worth the $$$$$.

As a result of staining from dental flurosis, I have six porcelain veneers on my upper front teeth and eight resin veneers on my lower front teeth. Before that, I had a single bond due to a chipped tooth.

I have enjoyed the veneers. They look and feel like natural teeth, and they’re strong enough to allow you to bite into things–even apples! (Due to the aforementioned chipped tooth and the bond, which seemed to fall off every two years, I went for most of my childhood without biting into apples and other hard food.)

As GolfWidow mentioned, veneers are pricey. The porcelain veneers cost more than resin veneers, but I think that they’re equally durable. The only reason I have resin veneers on my (rather small) bottom teeth is that the dentist didn’t want to risk removing the amount of tooth material necessary for the placement of porcelain veneers.

And before that previous sentence scares you away from veneers altogether–they only remove a very, very thin layer of enamel in order to put the veneer in place.

Jeep’s Phoenix, how much did it cost you for the resin veneers? Could you give me an approx cost of 2?

Just a quick bump before I’m off. Prices of bonding people, prices of bonding! :stuck_out_tongue:

Bump.
