Cost of legal medical marijuana in PA?

My father will be having his 91st birthday soon. He is in very poor health with a multitude of conditions on the approved list for medical marijuana in Pennsylvania. He is at his doctor’s office today getting the process started (on his doctor’s suggestion).

Dad said there is a $200 fee for the state issued ID card and a $100 fee for the doctor consultation. Anybody know how much he might expect to spend at the dispensary? I want to give him the money for his birthday present.

Weedmaps.
it’s probably not every one but it should give a good overview.

Do you absolutely need the state ID? In California, the doctor’s recommendation is enough.

Yes, the ID is required here. It’s not a ‘regular’ state ID but one specifically for medical marijuana.

Thanks for the link but it doesn’t show any pricing for the dispensary he will be using.

Sorry. I didn’t know MMJ was that new there.

I don’t know why PA would be much different, but $20/gram (10 if you can catch a sale) is common. It's cheaper or on par with alcohol from a /unit of schnockeredness standpoint.

If he’s not much of a tobacco smoker, don’t hand him a joint or a pipe. First of all, a joint is going to be too much. Weed is ridiculously stronger than back when he was smoking the reefer as a kid or when the hippies were taking over the world with peace, love, and understanding. If he’s to light up and smoke, get him a bubbler pipe. The smoke is nice and cool and much less harsh and he won’t stroke out from a coughing fit.

Better yet, a vape pen. The dose is much more easily controlled, there is no fire, and there is much less smell.

Also, consider edibles. They load a chewy piece of candy, about the size of a gummi bear and the same texture as a candy orange slice, with THC. Eat one and within about half an hour all is groovy.

Two varieties of dope to consider: Sativa (more psychoactive “brain high”) and Indica ("relaxing “body high”); if you have trouble remembering, just think “In da couch”. Indica will produce a bit of a high, but maybe not quite as disorienting. There are also hybrids which do a little more of both.

There is also some abomination which isolates the therapeutic medicinal properties without as much/any of the high. That is the CBD stuff. If he’s a [del]trip[/del] fall hazard, you may want to go this route.

It can take up to two hours. My one experiment with a gummi took 1:25 for a dry mouth and the effects started around 1:35-:40.

Thanks, I was derelict in the time thing. They are notoriously unpredictable in effect and onset. I like some predictability with my drugs.

No smoke-able weed in PA. In fact, it was in today’s paper that they changed the regulations and will be permitting flowers later this year (but not to smoke – it must be used in a vaporizer [biting my tongue to stay on subject] ).

Don’t know if there are edibles here. Vape pens and pills for sure. Don’t know what else.

I’m hoping somebody who has been through the process in PA will weigh in.
