Costume help: Edward Scissorhands

It was a toss up between here and IMHO, but I guess more arty people are here, sooo… :smiley:
Anyway, I’m thinking of doing Edward Scissorhands for a costume, in his leather outfit. But I’m having problems with the hands. How would you do the scissor blades?

I was thinking of using some stiff card and cutting out the blades (two layers of card front and back, and one half layer in between to “thicken” the blade), and spray paint them silver.

But if I go this route (and if the silver paint works), the handles of the scissors are going to be really flat and uninteresting.
Any ideas?

Couldn’t you just buy a five sets of scissors, take the screws out of the middle, and use the blades?

Consider that you will need to be able to use your hands for everyday tasks, as well as have a way to quickly remove the blades from time to time, then your options are limited further.

Do you really need them to be that detailed and accurate?
