Cougar started a thread, maintained it, always responded to whoever posted whatever dissention, and, so far as I was concerned, behaved with discretion and discipline.

You seem to see a lot of ‘personal’ in the decisions of forum moderators, I notice.
It’s always a judgement call, of course, but wouldn’t you say that provided the person banned is regarded, by the majority of the users of the forum, as a nuisance who needs to be got rid of, then the moderators are doing their job, and doing their job well?
Or do you feel there should be some other criterion of judgement?

Again: it was a Pit thread. In the Pit we really don’t act on people who won’t shut up.
There were a couple of other warnings. The poisoning thing was the last warning before cougar58 was suspended.
Wrong. cougar58 was banned for the reasons we gave in the announcement.
Fair enough. But the behaviour I see as detailed in the announcement looks a lot like the behaviour of a discredited ID being run down by an individual, probably because he has a new and permanent ID he or she wishes to remain credible.
Cougar showed a wide variety of interests. Suddenly his interests are reduced to one, and one alone. Moreover, having so reduced it, he lets loose though already on a caution, suggesting the ID was expendable and the user was indulging himself.
I’m not questioning the rationale behind the banning. Seems reasonable enough. I’m curious as to the cause of the behaviour that led to the banning.
To encourage those who post to be active members of the community rather than just be here to gripe. It’s from when comments on how the board is run went in the Pit. I don’t know if was ever codified or if it still applies.
No, there isn’t. People who spend that much of their time in the Pit tend not to last very long because they usually end up acting like jerks, but there’s no rule against it.
I’m done with that. Anyone who hasn’t, by now, picked up on my intentions probably never will.
Probably one of those times when I say something which makes perfect sense to me but leaves just about everyone else like “huh?”.

What do you think Laowai’s motive is for being here? If you are thinking that he is carrying a feud over to SDMB that began elsewhere, you would be correct.
My response is that this thread has been inactive for three weeks, so I have no idea why you bumped it. Whatever the problem is, it can’t be urgent.
I rarely know anyone’s motive for being on this board. Unless they’re spamming or trolling it’s usually not my concern. I did wonder what Laowai was talking about (because it sounded like an off-board issue) and why he was involved in this discussion was posting in ATMB so much. I don’t think the two of you have interacted since then. So I’ll advise both of you not to bring any off-board problems over here, and with that, I’ll close this thread.
