I’d sure like to laugh along with Maeglin and Scylla with the Latin stuff there, but my knowledge of Latin is wholly comprised from the scene in Monty Python’s Life of Brian when the centurian is teaching Brian how to conjugate the phrase “Romans go home.”

sorry, no help here. all of my knowledge of Latin is wholly comprised of the site i cited above (no pun intended). if the phrase is there, of course, well then oops, musta missed it.

NB (that’s Nota bene): This should not be construed to imply that I remember much of the Latin I took–but I do for some reason still have memorized the Latin version of “Baa Baa Black Sheep.” I kid you not.

Ok, this may be a little late, having just been directed here by Earl, but I think that it bears mentioning that “difficile est non saturam scribere” is from Juvenal’s first satire, concerning why he was lambasting Rome instead of writing girly little elegaics.
Anyhow, that’s the historical background…

Naw, he never returns my calls or emails anymore. The only thing I’ve seen lately from him is in Latin, which he knows I don’t understand. For all I know he’s telling me I was the worst “vult” he’s ever had and he was just using me cuz he was lonely and drunk.

I feel obliged to point out that the first line, “Cave felis” should read “Cave felem”. The former would be a warning to a cat, something like “Kitty, beware!”, since the -is ending would be nominative or vocative (it could also be genetive, but that wouldn’t make much sense here). Since the cat is the thing you’re being wary of, it should be in the accusative, with an -em ending (since it’s third declension).
