Could Conan O'Brien really be THIS big of an a**hole? (not a rant)

Hey, if you want to see Conan being an asshole, check out Triumph the Insult Comic Dog insulting people waiting in line to see Attack of the Clones.

It may be quite possibly the funniest thing I’ve ever seen on television.

Example:

Triumph: Here’s a trivia question - What was the material that Han Solo was frozen in?
Crowd: Corbomite!
Triumph: Wrong. The answer is, “Who gives a shit?”

Triumph: Who wants a spoiler? I’ve got a spoiler for you!
Crowd: Sure, what’s the spoiler?
Triumph: You will die alone.

Triumph to a pregnant Star Wars fan: Have you got a little nerd in there?
Woman: Yes. Future nerd!
Triumph: When is the little nerd due?
Woman: In three months.
Triumph: And that’s the last time he’ll see female genitalia.

Triumph to a female fan: Wow, look at the male to female ratio here. Does that excite you?
Woman: Sure.
Triumph: You are surrounded by 200 men, none of whom know how to please you.

God, I’m laughing just typing this. Then just as I was catching my breath, they brought out Spock to give all the Star Wars fans the finger.

I still want to kow why pulling the prank would have made him an asshole.

Conan is Triumph???

…i must state for the record i am living Australia (Sydney, The REAL greatest city on earth) so i dont see much triumph… but Conan i watch religiously

Nobody puts baby in a corner is a line from the movie.

And I loved Dirty Dancing. It has that great Contours song:

*Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Noooow that IIIIII can daaaaaaance?
*

Robert Smigel is Triumph on Late Night.

YES! My favorite was the guy in full Darth Vader atire.
Triumph ( looking at the chestpiece ) Which button do you press to have your mother come pick you up?

Thank you, Sam Stone, for referring me to the funniest thing I’ve seen in ages. I know the "I laughed, I cried… bit is overused, but I’m wiping away tears here.

Yeah, I know Triumph is Robert Smigel, but it’s still part of the Conan show.

Smigel is also the guy who does the 'Saturday TV Fun House" cartoons on SNL, the ‘clutch cargo’ voices of Clinton, Dole, Bush, etc. on Conan’s show. He’s also a writer on both shows.

Put him together with Conan, and you have the best comedy writing team EVER.

By the way, if you search the net you can find all kinds of video clips of Triumph bits. They are all insanely funny, although the Star Wars bit is the funniest thing he ever did. But here are a couple of other examples:

From a Bon Jovi Interview:
Triumph: Bon Jovi, is it true that you got a part in a movie as a vampire?
Bon Jovi: Yep.
Triumph: Finally, you found something you can do where you are supposed to suck.

From a real appearance on “Hollywood Squares”:

Triumph: Hey, Cathy Lee! Did you know that Regis and I have something in common?
Cathy: No, what?
Triumph: We both got rid of a bitch this year.

Then there were the times when Triumph went to the Westminster Dog Show and humped some dogs before the TV crew was kicked out…

Conan has the best comedy writing of any show on television, let alone any talk show. Night after night, his show is consistently more funny than anything else on TV. And what’s amazing is, he does it five nights a week. Saturday Night Live can’t match this level of hilarity, and they only have to do something like 30 shows a year, and have a writing staff of about 20 people. Conan is simply phenomenal. And he was even better with Andy Richter. Great show.

I rememeber this Conan stunt. It was on the same magnitude as the search for Grady. When he was campaigning to get it re-released, he showed two clips to show how great a movie it was. Then, later, he showed the exact same clips to show how lousy a movie it was. With tricks like that, I don’t see how anyone could have taken it seriously, even if you were unaware that this is exactly the kind of joke that he’s likely to pull.

I haven’t seen his show in years. I think I’ll have to start watching again…

Gee, if only I could go back in time and make sure that someone else asked a question so it would look like I was answering them and not Sam Stone. Oh wait.

The best thing about the Clones bit was the parts that were obviously made up on the spot. Granted, most of it were just riffs on the same theme, but God, I have to admire the quick wit to come up with so many variations and still make it funny.

Well, something unrelated: I’ve known two people that were interns as Conan’s show and both came back hating the man and saying he was a total prick.

So, he really could be that big of an asshole :D.
