Could I get in trouble for this?

Maybe they’re wild flowers!

Fabulous! I love that someone noticed and planted a sign.

That sign made me a little teary, too. Good on you, OP!

I don’t know how I missed this thread when monstro originally started it, but this is the best bump/update of the day. Maybe the week. Thanks for sharing with us.

That is so great, monstro!

I guess I should have read the text on the photobucket page:

:smack:

My mom does things like this all the time, and she’s never gotten in trouble for it yet. Most people, I think, fall into one of three categories: Either they’re so oblivious that they never even notice at all, or they assume that she was the person hired to do it, or they know that she wasn’t and approve anyway.

I snorted out loud at this.

I love it. Awesome work.
The crooked fence bugs me, though. If I passed the flower garden every day, I’m not sure I could resist straightening the posts out.

What Fertilize at Midnight?

Very cool. Only the kinds of people who would shut down a kiddie lemonade stand would object to this.

I got the seeds from Krogers. I should have taken pictures as the plants grew.

I stop by the plot on my way to work every day. If it’s been dry for a while, I’ll dowse it with a kitty litter jug full of water. But these plants are pretty hearty. I can identify some of them, but not all. The packet said there are perennials in the mix, so some of them won’t bloom until next year, I’m thinking.

The sign actually made me weep. It started as a strange feeling that came over me days after the discovery. I was in the shower, thinking about that sign and the effort it took to print it out (it says the same thing on both sides and it’s laminated) and stick it into the hard soil. I don’t know what the emotion was that welled up in me–joy? love?–but I totally broke down. It’s was one of those cries where you don’t make a sound but your face is all scrunched up and you can’t breath. And I wasn’t hormonal at all. I have shed tears of joy before, but actually bawled like that? I didn’t think it was possible!

As Papa Smurf would say, “Simply amazing!”

Nice job :).

And good on the person who put that sign there as well. Always nice to see good deeds appreciated.

Lots of good comments and advice here. But I particularly like this ^ quote.

I don’t know what that feeling is called, either, but I’ve felt it. It’s responsible for me crying and not quite, but almost crying, way more often at happy movies than sad ones.

Never misunderestimate the legal ramifications that allow good deeds to be dicked over.

Now granted, that group was feeding homeless people, who can be a detriment to the natural beauty of an area. But just because almost everyone thinks something is a good idea, there may still be backlash for it.

Although I feel that it’s unlikely in this case. Nice job, Monstro!
ETA: Also, I like how the “thank you” in the sign is in quotes. Does that make it sarcastic?

Thank you very much.

(Maybe you could compost your coffee grounds and raw vegetable peelings? The ground looks like it could use a lot more organic matter.)

(Ignore me. Someone is sure to get annoyed at you for ‘dumping garbage’.)

How amazing! And not too long ago, you were complaining that you never felt joy. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you make the world a better place, monstro. Glad you got to feel a little of what you bring others.

ETA: I love the fact that the sign is laminated. That’s more than just a nice note. Someone was really moved by what you did and wanted you to know it!

sniff

That’s so nice, Alan. Your words are even better than that sign! Two days from now they’ll have me crying in the shower!

I kinda want to print up a thank you sign for the thank you sign. The truth is I planted those flowers for my own benefit because I like plants and watching them grow. I didn’t even consider that other people would enjoy them too. The sidewalk is pretty quiet when I’m coming and going, but during the day it is apparently busy. So that sign popped the bubble I live in. My actions have consequences!

I know! But I feel bad because no matter how hard I shove it into the ground, it will not stay up. I might have to get my trowel and dig a hole or something.

j66, I did amend the soil before I planted, and every so often I add a teeny bit of Miracle Gro when do the watering. The clay soil actually helps things because it keeps moisture better than you’d think, but it is pretty leached. If I do this again next year, I will enrich the soil better. I don’t know where I can keep a compost, though.

Great job. I think this is inspiring. I am also a plant lover. In my garden I try to grow mostly hearty native plants because I don’t believe in pampering plants AND because growing natives is better for the environment than introducing non-natives that might displace the natives. You’ve inspired me to start planning on propagating some plants from my garden with the plan to brighten up some neglected areas with them.
