If I could, I’d send you a big 10 gallon bucket from my compost pile.
(Weird gift, I know. Just last week I gave a couple I know the greatest gift of all - browns! Yup, a big bag of dry leaves I’d kept from last fall. They just moved in and put in a compost bucket, but they don’t have any big trees on their property.)
That reminds me - I have an earthworm story. This morning I looked out at my garden and noticed a robin was strutting around with one of my worms in his beak. He was wandering over to the north, and one of my cats was wandering over to the south - the robin cocked his head, noticed the cat bearing down on him, and started hightailing it back the way he came. It was funny to watch - I could just see the thoughts going on in his little birdy brain; “SCORE! Nice juicy worm for breakfa - okay, let’s go the *other * way now!”
Aw, thanks, monstro. I was worried I might have weirded you out after I admitted in another thread that you’re my secret doper crush. Of course, this just makes it worse!
There’s more good karma circling around in this thread than in an entire monastery full of Buddhist monks. Those little seed packets - they wrought quite the reward, no? monstro, sometimes it takes a while to process stuff, especially big, hard-to-define emotions. Two days sounds just right to me.
Our local garden center trades saplings for your used Christmas tree.
For the 3 years we lived in an apartment complex, I planted 2-3 trees each year.
It’s been 22 years now, but they grew to be huge trees - Dogwoods, Japanese Maples and more. Our common area was beautiful, and I even though we moved to the suburbs years ago, I would bring my kids to see the trees I planted when mom & dad first married…
Alas, about 4 years ago, some drunk Preppie drove daddy’s BMW about 100mph down our road, and crashed into 2 of my trees nearest the road. I saw it the news and drove over the next day. They were damaged beyond repair, and taken down soon after.
Sadly, then entire complex was razed and replaced by an office building a couple of years ago, so all I have is some pictures of my handiwork.
