I went to ride on a new motocross track in Houston this weekend. I went around one time to get use to the track then I went over a double jump in 2nd gear. Well the bike popped out of gear which made me lean to the left.
And then BOOM I get nailed by a bike doing about 30mph clearing the double in mid air. I felt a major throbbing pain in my left knee cap and calf as I hit the ground. While I was laying there, I was thinking to myself move you need to move Bill there will be other bikes coming and will not be able to see you because of the double jumps. The WHAM!! I feel a bike running over my ankle this time and then I feel my head get smashed into the ground as he uses my helmet as traction.
Then through pure adrenelen(sp) I force myself to crawl towards the edge of the track.
Then three or four dudes start trying to help me up(I was just laying there a while you know contemplating the meaning of life) then my childhood instincts take over. You know the one where you protect your bike at all cost because in your head you think you will heal but the bike will only get fixed when dad has nothing else to do on a Saturday. So I asked, “forget me, how is my bike?”
They said not to bad a hole in your air cleaner and your gear shift is bent in. “Cool I say” then laid back in the mud" for a while till they help me stand up.
Oh shoot I forgot this is GQ sorry for rambling where is the question huh?
Well it hurts pretty dang bad just to limp along. Could I have fractured one of them two bones that go from your knee to your ankle and still be able to limp?
Also could I chipped my kneecap because it is about 125% the size of the other one? Same with my elbow I can feel something moving around in there and a sharp pain when I touch it?
I mean am I just being wimp and should I tough it out or should I break down spend the bucks and see a doc?
Oh btw anybody want to buy a 97’ YZ250? You see I just can’t have this hobby interfering with my wakeboarding and body building. The water just don’t hurt as bad as the ground and those other bikes do if you know what I mean. I have a feeling you would get a pretty good deal about now?
Here I am agreeing with Freedom again. what kind of twisted universe is this?
Yes, Bill get thee to the hospital. Even if I were a doctor of great skill, it would be impossible for me to diagnos this over the computer screen. Yes, even if you held your leg up in front of it.
don’t post. have your wife drive you… (remembering the other threads)
You’re right wring(wildest bill putting his leg down from the screeen) I went to the doctor.
Typical doctor visit wait, wait and wait(I feel like a waitor ) . Anyway he refered me to an orthapedic doctor tomorrow I’ll fill you and freedom in on the results.
A couple other question.
How good is Vica Profen as a pain killer?(never heard of it before) also if I did tear a ligament, how long does that take to heal?
well the drug sounds like a form of Vicodin, which IIRC is a synthetic form of morphine/codeine. My son had it about a year ago (worlds’ worst case of Mono + strep - no joking please - he was in the ICU for several days, nearly died). But your pharmacist could probably (hint hint) tell you more.
As for the length of time with the other injury, gosh, I’d think the doctor could/should fill you in about that. (hint, hint)
Does this put the high school reunion on hold? (another aside - I know you post at other boards, too, do ya ask them these questions too and average the resulting answers?)
(one other thing, tho’ I’ll add - if your knee is as swollen as you say, bruising, right? - be very aware of how it’s healing - streaks of color from the bruise upwards towards your heart can indicate a blood clot. If the area feels warm to the touch, it could have gotten infected - this latter happened to me several years ago - I still have a large lump of scar tissue from this massive briuse. Both of these conditions can be life threatening, so it’s nothing to fool around with - so remember, streaking upwards, and/or warm to the touch, don’t stop and post on SDMB, go hither to the ER).
I got some after I had my wisdom teeth out. Seemed pretty good, but I only took 2, as I really wasn’t in much pain to begin with. But it seemed like some heavy duty stuff.

Sounds scary I would have been freakin. I am glad he is alright now.
Man, you are good wring. You should be a detective or something. I have found that a medium between two extremes are the best basis for answering opinionated topics. But funny they told me to stop too. No reason wasting product if you can’t work out. Hopefully, the orthapedic doctor will give me the go ahead to at least workout upper body(I hated legs anyway). Reunion is not until October so I think I am cool on that. I would have like to have been bigger at the lake this summer though.
What do you mean by going upwords? Did your streaks only go upwards?
Thanks flymaster for the info and I really appreciate your concern.
(thanks Bill re- my kid - yes, I freaked, I only said ‘no joke’ 'cause ya say the word “mono” and people start joking about kissing etc, and I’m not ready yet to joke about that whole time).
“going upwards” - towards your heart. So, if the bruise is on your knee, and the streaks go up your thigh, have some one check you out pronto. if the bruise was on your elbow and the streaks went up towards your shoulder, ditto. the issue/concern would be blood clots going into your heart. Ask your doctor to be certain. I’ve taken to warning people about this when they talk about large bruises, since I had my escapade with mine (mine was the size of a large grapefruit, you know, the 3 for a buck kind?). When there’s that much material for the body to deal with, problems can occur, or so I was told.
well, be careful until that reunion, we don’t want to be hearing about you on CNN.
When my youngest daughter was little (3 or 4) she greatly admired a good friend of mine, who was an avid dirt biker. He used to get beat up all the time. What is it with you guys, anyway? His name was Bill. Any relation?
Anyway, she called his bike a “murdersickle”. I don’t know for sure if it was because she was still learning to talk, or if she was commenting on his many injuries.
She did love to go “faster, Bill” (3 mph, both his feet down) in circles in front of our house with him, tho.
Oops, I’m rambling. To the OP.
Bill (the other one) came close to dying from “blood poisoning” because of a bad puncture wound in his foot. His clutch lever went in between his ankle and his heel. He thought it would be “ok”. They had to cut out part of his foot. He still rides, although he’s in his 50’s.
Tough guys. Sheesh.
Listen to the doc, Bill.
Peace,
mangeorge
She massacred some bad guys who were after me, while I hid in her azaleas.
The story lives deep in the thread about home invasion (another gun thread), which I’ve been unable to find.
The title goes something like “What would do if someone broke into your house”.
Peace,
mangeorge (Gettin’ old)
Bill, Wow this is strange, Mill Road Track Houston (Saturday) you were on a YZ250. What are the odds? I was the one who caught the major air off your brain bag. That helmet gave me more air the jump. Man you have a BIG HEAD.
Get yourself checked out by a doctor or go see a head shrinker.
Man, I have to have a big head for all those brains to fit in there.
Appreciate the concern everybody thanks. Empathy really does soothe the spirit. I go to the bone and muscle doc today. I’ll let ya know what he says besides the standard, “that will be $90 bucks”
This answers a lot of questions some of us have had about you WB.
Those voices you hear are not from God, they are your other brains trying to talk to you:)
Freedom you got me on that one. Every time I try to be cute with an intellectual type comment I screw it up. Open mouth insert feet(that’s right feet)
Guin,
Yea I got insurance but it ain’t that great. Have deductable of three grand.
Results of my doctor visit. Got there 5 minutes early for my 3:15 appointed waited till 4:30 to get to the first little room took a nap on the the mini bed until the doc came in at 5:15. (I think from now one I am showing up for my appointments at least 30 minutes late). He said I sprained my ligaments pretty good in my leg. Said I could work out upper body though. So now I have a good excuse not to do legs. These vica profen are working pretty good. I can get around when I take them without wincing in pain every few steps.
