I was supposed to go to karaoke tonight with my friend Karla. Well I never made it. I stopped at the bank to get some money out of the ATM and everything was fine. I drove to the Garden State Parkway for what would normally be a 15 minute ride to Karla’s house then another 30 minute ride to the bar. About five minutes after getting onto the Parkway I realised my Air Conditioner was much colder than nomal. I messed with the controls and it still was freezing cold. I looked at my dash and saw the idiot light for temparture is on and the guage was near the red zone, so I pulled over and shut the car off. I called Karla to explain that I can’t make it, then I called my house to tell my parents what happened but in the middle of the call the phone’s battery died (doen’t that always happen at the bad times) and I now had no way to get help. It’s around 8:20 at night now, very dark and there are cars passing me going 65 and faster. Although my car was on the shoulder I didn’t feel it was far enough away from traffic, but I didn’t want to start the engine not knowing what was wrong or if it had enough time to cool down. So I’m standing behind the car and off to the side incase someone is not payaing attention, drifts over onto the shoulder and hits my car, I won’t be hurt and I’m waving at the cars trying to get one to stop. A half hour or so passes (I don’t have a watch) and finally a state trooper pulls up. I wait for him to roll down the passenger window which he does (after he runs my plates) and he asks me whats wrong. I tell him that I need a tow truck, and he calls for one, tells me he should be there in 10-20 minutes, blocks traffic a bit so I can move my car futher off the road then he leaves. So now I’m sitting in my car (because he made me stay in it) I have the flashers and lights on and I turn on the radio so I have some music to pass the time. About 15 minutes later the tow truck pulls up, and we have a conversation on where he is going to take me. I want the car taken to my house, he tells me that he can only take me to the nearest exit for free. If I want him to go any place else I will have to pay for it. So he takes my car to a shopping plaza that is right off the parkway, dops the car off, and shows me that the flatbed has puddles of coolent whioch is from the radiator or a hose. So I call my house for advice. My mother gives me the address of this raditor repair place and tells me to have it towed there, and that she will come out to get me. So I call AAA and tell them where I am and where I want to go and I wait. The tow truck comes before my mother does and the driver puts my car on the tuck. A few minutes later my dad shows up, but doesn’t know where the place we are going to is (neither does the driver) I give them the address again and tell my dad to follow the tow truck. Instead he gets in front of the truck and the truck is following us. We have no idea where we are going, pass the place and have to turn around. At this point we lose the tow tuck, but we found the business park the repair place is in. Bad news, the entrace to the business park is gated and since all the buildings are close, the gates are locked. You need a key card to get in now, but of course none of us have one because we don’t work in the business center. So now we have no place to have the car dropped off if we find the tow truck So I call AAA again and get patched through to the dispatcher for the truck. I tell them to tow it to my house, so they do. Only problem is my father parked where the tow truck wants to put my car, so I had to move his car, so the tow truck could get it, then move his car back. So now I have to wait until the daytime to see if I can figure out what was leaking and why, and where to take it to.
But think about the gas money you saved while being towed home!!
Seriously though, it is probably just a hose or something that is easily (and cheaply) fixed.
Hope everything turns out ok.
Replace hoses and belts every 5 years.
I saw that poster yesterday. Good luck, check back and tell us what happened.
shows nothing good ever comes from planning to go to karioke.
Well I had my friend come over and pull the radiator. Thats when I found out there is something called a drain plug that is supposed to prevent all your coolant from just pouring out, well the drain plug was gone. So $10.00 for the plug and $50.00 for my friend’s labor and $30.00 for our lunch and my car is back to normal
Every day above ground is a good one.
Still there could have been snakes in the car.
Ee, that sucks. Good luck with the car.
And paragraphs are your friends!
$50 labor for a drain plug???
What did it take him…2 minutes to screw in the new plug?
