This is a pretty simple question and its answer will be pretty simple.
I know that hemp and marijuana plants are closely related. Now, I’m not sure whether the only difference is their THC content or if they are different plants.
So, could I weave a hemp-rope from marijuana fibres, or are the two plants too different?
It’s the same basic plant. The sativa variety of the plant, especially those bred over the years for the fiber production, grow very tall in sufficient sunlight.
One intersting thing to watch if you’re interested in industrial hemp, especially as a bit of a departure from current US drug policy, is the 1942 war film “Hemp For Victory”. It should be available on eMule or other P2P sources (Mods, please be nice - this is a public film)
During WW II, a certain Indiana county grew a whole lot of hemp for the war effort. Hemp is a very enthusiastic plant, and it continued to grow along the fencerows and along the drainage ditches long after the war. I have heard all that stuff about how industrial hemp has no THC, and it won’t get you high. I don’t believe it. Farm boys up there were rolling up the rope weed from 1942 on. Hemp is a very useful fiber, but let’s not pretend, OK? Even the rope-grade plant contains the drug.
Yes, you could make rope from drug-grade hemp stalks. Rope is a dead issue, though. Dacron, nylon, polypropylene, and even cotton are stronger and cheaper. Hemp makes good cloth, and paper. The stalks can even be laid between rows of blocks to make a primitive building earthquake-resistant.
