Recently I had a scene from a movie flash into my head and it won’t leave until I remember where exactly it’s from. I THINK it MIGHT be from one of the Austin Powers movies, but I don’t have those movies at the moment to check. It’s not a very complicated scene to summarize: basically, a beautiful woman is making an entrance onto the scene (possibly in slow motion) accompanied by the opening instrumental and first few lyrics of the song “I’ve Seen All Good People” by Yes.
Does this ring a bell for anyone? That song isn’t showing up on any of the soundtracks for the Austin Powers movies.
Some Googling has indicated that the scene I’m talking about might be from the film Almost Famous - which I cannot recall ever seeing, but maybe I just glimpsed a clip and it stuck with me. Does that movie have a scene where a beautiful woman is introduced to the viewers, with that Yes song in the background?
I think it may well have been Mr. Deeds. See, if the movie had been any good, I would have remembered the actual movie; instead, all I remember is this one specific shot of a woman walking in slow motion with that song in the background, which was quite ingenious because it’s just a great song for a scene like that to be set to. Even totally mediocre movies can sometimes have brief moments of genius.
I just popped in the DVD for Almost Famous – “I’ve Seen All Good People/Your Move” is playing in the background when William first enters the San Diego Sports Arena with Stillwater for his first professional music review gig.
I just downloaded the movie to find the scene and it was at about the 17 min. mark. It’s played while Sandler’s character is looking out of a helicopter at night shouting “It’s an honor to come to the greatest city in the world!” I scanned through the whole movie and that’s the only instance I found of the song playing. Yes, I’m bored.
