I think the gerund “anthropomorphizing” is most commonly used.

And you certainly can’t trust a gerund that long around small children.

Is the snake yawning at one point? (Do I know?)

Stretching it’s jaw muscles?

Exposing some sensory anatomy?

Doing a random just for test “snarl?” (Do snakes display their teeth/open wide as an aggression/defensive posture?)
