Could you be given a traffic ticket at an auto show?

I just got back from the GM Auto Show in Motion at Paramount’s Great America Park.

We could test drive any of their cars (and some of their competitors’) around a small race track marked with orange cones.

We were warned by track marshals that if we drive over the recommended speed limit of 25-30mph or burn rubber, we would be handed over to the cops. There were cops from the Santa Clara Police Department present at the track.

Now I’m just wondering what, if any, action could theoretically have been taken against me were I to break the rule at the auto show. Note that this is on a closed circuit, not on a public roadway.

Could I have been cited for a traffic violation? Would it come on my permanent driving record?

It was a fun day overall. I got to drive the Chevy Corvette stick shift (we were allowed to drive fast in this one, since it was in the performace driving section) and some other neat cars.

Well when I competed in the Silver State Classic Challenge if we exceeded our tech speed (the max speed our car was allowed to travel based on driver experience, car condition, and safety equipment) and were caught on one of the four radar traps manned by the Nevada Highway Patrol we were told that we would receive a speeding ticket for our actual speed and the overage would be based on the then current 55 MPH speed limit on that streach of road. As the man said, you do not want a 155 in a 55 zone ticket.
Also if the NHP gives you a speeding ticket within 90 of the date of the event on that road, you are not allowed to compete.
But hey that is a small price to pay inorder to get to legally go 160 MPH on a public highway.

As far as getting a ticket on a private track, the info in this thread indicates that you can indeed, so long as the track owners have approved or requested it. Apparently it would be just like getting a ticket on a public road.

A more typical example is a shopping center (privately owned) contracting with the local police department for patrol and law enforcement.
