Could You Build a House With These?

I was looking at a vacuum-packed pound of coffee, and it amazed me how strong this little block seemed to be. In effect, the strength of the block comes from the external air pressure. I know that pressured structures have been around for a long time (many gyms and tennis courts are pressurized structures).
But has anyone ever employed the opposite principle (vacuum-evacuated blocks), like my coffee container?
