::After having taken a long, hot shower and put on his best suit, Hamlet arrives with a huge box of chocolates::
Ummmmm. I may not be able to make it, and it sounds damn scary to show up with all of you there, but I assume it’s O.K. to just kinda show up on Saturday if I can, Right? Right??
Right. I’m keeping a list just to have some idea how many people might be there, and you’re now on it. But that doesn’t mean you’re obligated to attend. And we’re not scary. Really. REALLY!
Seriously, my first ChiDope was a pretty good size one (25 people or so) and I didn’t know anyone IRL beforehand. I was nervous as hell (just ask UncleBeer or VileOrb, who were my first dopers. Well, first ones I met, anyway). I had a great time. And so will you. Whether you like it or not.
Does anybody have any links to pictures of previous Chidopes so the newer folk can feel a little more comfortable meeting people 'cuz they won’t feel so new?
magdalene - is the Science and Industry musuem close enough that we can meet at the same spot? That way, all of the musuem goers can meet at one time and decide then which musuem to go to.
Jess, as much as I love dinosaurs and coelacanths, I love baseball even more. (Okay, I’m hoping to get to do both, but if I have to choose, it’s always gonna be baseball.)
I have floor space available in my hotel room. I’m staying at the Embassy O’Hare, across the street from the Doubletree.
For anyone not yet aware, I’m paying for the room and allowing anyone who needs a place to crash to stay there, in karmic return for my paid-for-by-manny trip to NYC.
I’ll be needing a head count pretty soon, too. Just let me know if you want to stay there. I know, the major partying is going to be at Doubletree, but hey, we’ll be right across the street. Staggering distance.
Yes and no. Downtown is a central location, and the Art Institute is downtown, but MSI is south-er. What I usually do is take the train downtown and then catch the shuttle to MSI, so a central meeting place can certainly be established.
In this thread on the alterna-board, dropzone made some rather inflammatory remarks about belly-dancing.
I really feel that dropzone needs a live demonstration of the error of his ways…
And since he’ll be at Chidope, and I will as well, I was wondering…
What if I did a little demonstration at some point during the weekend? Besides dropzone, there are at least one or two other Dopers that I’d really like to dance for(besides Bob).
I will be able to make Jarbaby’s brunch, so that would be an option on time, or I’m open to ideas.
Or you could just tell me to quit being an attention ho (which I freely admit to)
Zy, I’d LOVE to see you dance. I can’t make the brunch of Sunday, though. So I’m going to beg for a demo on Friday or Saturday. If it can’t be done ether of those days, though, I understand.
But, if you DO dance on Sunday at the brunch and I miss it, I had better see some pictures!
No less so than I am! Except I’m that way only online. My painfully shy RL personality would probably be mortified by this, which I suppose is your intention.
Now you have two of my personalities arguing about being obnoxious. RL is against it. Online is trying to point out how it actually is paying off this time. RL is telling him to stuff it. Online is saying that RL is a stick in the mud. RL is reminding him that Online has already earned them both a punch in the nose this fest.
It’s never lonesome in my head. Rarely quiet, either.
[sub]Braves open against the Mets. Any clue on if I’m gonna be able to watch part of that game? Should be on TBS and starts at 7:30. The Cubs, meanwhile, will be playing Pittsburgh, and I haven’t been “interested” (in the sense of hoping they lost) in them since their glory days of losing to the Braves i the NLCS).[/sub]
