Counterculture Anthems

Totally concur. My three greatest anti-war songs, in no particular order: Masters Of War, War Pigs and The Band Played Waltzing Matilda.

ETA: and I would give an arm and a leg to see Dylan do “War Pigs”. :joy:

Ten Years After - “I’d Love To Change The World”

Something for us Gen-Xers out there:

Tracy Chapman, “Talkin’ Bout a Revolution”

One Tin Soldier. The story of Coven performing this for the movie Billy Jack is an interesting one.

As an April Fools joke after Janet Jackson’s “Wardrobe Malfunction”, one local radio station claimed that the FCC forced edits on their music. They played Tracy Chapman’s “Talkin’ 'Bout a Revolution”, but beeped out the word “Revolution” every time she sang it.

My other favorite was when they played Warren Zevon’s “Lawyers, Guns, and Money”, they played the third verse. “Send lawyers, guns and money, the”, then the music stopped, a pause, someone said “number 2” then the music started back up “has hit the fan!” The comedic timing of it was perfect!

I see Public Enemy’s Fight the Power mentioned a bunch of times but how about the original?

That is one of the ones I thought of originally.

How about “Make Me Wanna Holler”?

Bills pile up

“War Pigs” has already mentioned (dammit!), but it’s definitely one of my favorites. However, how could anyyone forget:

Disturbed did a SERIOUSLY kickass cover of this one:

(WHY is Discourse not allowing me to put in more spaces? grrrr :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:)

Rapping in 1970:

PLEASE NOTE: The title and central refrain of this track by The Last Poets (album) - Wikipedia contain a racial epithet that may offend some posters. Listener discretion is advised.

I probably missed these up-thread, if so sorry.
