I have lost 14. I have done it by meticulously counting calories.
However, now a business partner is in from the UK and we often eat out. It makes it much harder to count. (He’ll be gone in two weeks, but there will be other times when I need to know this.)
Today we went to a local sandwich shop and I had a Tuna wrap. I used Subway’s published calories to approximate.
How can I eat out like normal people and still keep track of what I eat?
I don’t know if they are avaialble to non-members, but Weight Watchers has published several books which list information about thousands of foods at many chain restaurants. For example, you can compare the calories of a double cheeseburger at McDonalds vs Wendys vs Burger King.
I would basically just order all dressings and sauces on the side, avoiding anything with a creamy sauce. Stick with baked, steamed, grilled or broiled. Eat only half and take the rest home and stay away from the bread basket and dessert. If you do these things, you won’t have to worry so much. I use calorieking.com. It has nutrition info on almost anything you can imagine, including restaurant items and brand names. Good job so far!!
I’ve been counting for nearly two months now, and I have found that a lot can be found online - either from the chain’s website itself, or by taking a look from a number of comparable items from other places.
My google-fu isn’t coming up with much useful for ‘tuna wrap’, other than Subway, Mister Sub, and this discussion
It’s pretty tough at proper restaurants. A chef would think nothing of doing something that would add hundreds of calories to a dish, like using half a stick of butter in a sauce, or drizzling with oil, or cooking with whole cream.
