Background: In the show intro, the hosts did a parody song turning “Amarillo by Morning” into “Obamacare by Morning”. The basic joke was that the website doesn’t work well.
I like parody songs, found it mildly amusing. Now I’m seeing references to how brave the performers were (joking about something that the late night talk shows have been joking about for a month?) and how there is outrage among liberals over this. The most I can find is some Twitter comments, none by anyone of note.
First I heard of it. But if The Daily Show and SNL are making fun of it, why would anyone be surprised/shocked/outraged by an awards show doing it? Not even “those country guys are all tea partiers!” but I’d expect any show with an entertainment portion to consider it fair game for an easy joke.
for about 2 seconds I got my panties in a bunch but then I remembered their audience and thought, meh, it figures… but at the same time, awwww, how sad.
Not a big deal at all. How much of a cultural impact do Country Music Awards have? I’m more confused over why they would create a satire song for an awards show.
Silencing the mike while Kacey Musgraves sang the lyric “roll a joint” caused more outrage. Which is to say, only the manufactured kind used to drive page views, not any actual outrage.
I didn’t watch the show, since I’m not much of a country music fan and generally hate award shows.
Was there a “huge controversy” over the song? Nah, that would be an exaggeration- but there are certainly more than a few humorless liberals getting huffy about the parody song.
As I said in another thread, the only thing that really bugs me about this is that they are once again conflating Obamacare with a website (albeit moreso the people reporting on it than the actual song itself.) That’s just become a pet peeve, I guess. Otherwise I agree–meh. It would only be funny if it were shocking, and, unfortunately, such things are not.
I’m a flaming liberal, too, and I like modern country music. But I think most any awards show is stupid and massively rigged. It’s not funny, but that doesn’t mean I am offended.
