I just started seeing memes last night. Before that it was just the same video over and over with “omg you gotta see this”. Obviously, your experience varied. But, hey, if I knew what should be going viral I’d be a much richer man.
Right?! They were at one time arguably the most popular band in the world. Someone was listening to them! And now they are on the long slow creative decline that can sustain a good paycheck for band members for the rest of their lives that so many bands before them have taken. I mean, the fucking Eagles are still selling out concerts!
Love them (Coldplay) or hate them seems beside the point here.
They no doubt don’t need my seal of approval. I still wouldn’t be caught dead at their concerts. The only reason I could poke fun at them is because they are hugely successful. It would be more of a dick move if it was a struggling band I didn’t like.
It’s a morality play: a story of money, power, sex, impunity, and comeuppance. All in 10 seconds flat.
No wonder it’s popular.
Until the next thing comes along.
It caught on because there is video of it and they handled it so cartoonishly badly.
This, um, affair is competing with Downfall for the most substitution memes. In addition to the Phillie Phanatic, one memorable one features a photoshopped version with Jeffrey Epstein having his arms around Donald Trump.
I am guessing you mean the movie Downfall but not seeing the connection here.
The final speech, in German, of Hitler to his staff was a common meme with fake English subtitles describing something inane or minor. As I recall, when the first few went slightly viral, the film makers tried to get them squashed which created a Streisand effect.
The most famous Downfall parody was probably the one featuring Hillary Clinton as Adolf Hitler, going into an apoplectic rage over the political success of Obama.
I’m partial to the one where the Führer is castigating all and sundry over Tony Romo and his late-career lackluster performance at the Dallas Cowboys.
Lotsa great Downfall memes. Not seeing one here (if I missed it please link it or PM me with the link). I think this issue has a lot of potential for one though (read: hoping someone makes one).
Because their reactions were incredibly hilarious. It would have gone entirely as viral if it was any other two random people and the circumstances were known. These people were complete unknowns from a very obscure company. 99.999% of the people reacting to it have never heard of the people or the company before, so the ID of the people and the company have nothing to do with the humor of the moment.
The moment would have been less viral if this was not the age of powerful generative AI allowing for many, many, many parodies to be made almost instantly…
The meme train rolls along.
Did anybody else take a fast look at the title while halfawake and think “How do you cheat at concertgoing? Did they sneak in the back without buying tickets, or something?”
Why would some CEO need to “explain” or “handle” anything (except to his wife, of course, or if he blatantly violated some officially official policy)?
Reminds me of this scene:
— We have the means to discredit Kennedy.
—How?
—He likes women.
—Yes?
—He likes women… a lot.
—You were talking about discrediting Kennedy. Does he have any flaws?
—Well, women.
—Yes, and?
—He sleeps with a lot of women.
—…?
—It’s not good for a politician.
—Why?
I have always thought that having an “affair” is only hurting the people they are cheating on. Beyond that, what does it matter? I don’t care, it doesn’t have anything to do with me, and I’m not going to condemn anyone for that. It certainly goes to character, but even then there are a lot of reasons why it happens, and not always negative.
Your moral superiority is noted. The rest of us can enjoy that he’s resigned
I bet he’s not a Coldplay fan now
Well for darn sure he’s not a kiss cam fan!
