Jerry was there partly because the Bubble Boy wanted to meet him after seeing him on TV.
Kavorka is a heavy burden.
But Newman, a mailman, can afford to live in the same building. Granted his apartment seems a lot smaller.
I’m almost certain that Newman’s apartment was the same set as Jerry’s, dressed differently. I didn’t find a lot of images, but here are a couple.
FYI, here’s a 1996 article about Kenny Kramer, upon whom the character was based. The article lists some of the odd jobs he’s had and mentions that he made an unspecified amount of money after he invented “electronic disco jewelry”.
Very good, but Jerry didn’t have a big apartment. As a comedian, he probably struggled from time to time. Remember he used to sell umbrellas and his parents were middle class. How much money did he have? Jerry did not spend money on clothes or food. He seldom took vacations. But I’ll give him this, he has many options in the dating world even if he felt 95% of the population was un-datable!
Jerry struck me as a guy who liked to be passive and entertained by his friends at all times. A reason why he could never steer clear of any of them! He needed them to feel good or keep normal.
The weirdest thing to me is that Jerry wasn’t hanging around other comedians all the time, which is what real life would be like for him.
And don’t get me started on Space Jam and *3rd Rock From the Sun *.
Which is funny, because in the episode where she identifies big band music for her boss (Mr. Wick?) she really bebobs at her desk, Very cute.
It’s amazing how many people you meet in NYC that fit that description. Especially if you take out the “mooch food off your neighbors” part.
Kramer’s life is a fantasy camp.
Jerry was probably living below his means though he splurged on occasion, including having his kitchenette remodeled and then demodeled. I get the impression he didn’t bother moving somewhere else because he’s compulsively neat and moving is messy.
Mr. Pitt. Next Stop Pottersville.
I’m not a car person so I don’t know which models he drove, but he always had nice cars and didn’t seem to mind how often they got destroyed/stolen/stunk up.
The episode where Puddy’s a car salesman (S09E11) that might give Jerry a deal suggests that Jerry was voluntarily choosing to get a newer model despite his current car must be practically brand new.
BTW: the car Jerry wanted to buy there was a Saab 900 NG convertible.
Well, he tried that occasionally, but Kenny Bania is hard to take for more than a few minutes at a time.
Re: Jerry not having comic friends.
There are repeated references to Jerry playing for a comedy club softball team. E.g. “The Pony Remark” S02E02 and “The Understudy” S06E24.
Jerry and his comedy friends hold an intervention in “The Pez Dispenser” S03E14. (The comic’s problems began when Kramer drenched him at one of the club softball games.)
Some comic friends appear elsewhere. E.g., in “The Stand-In” S05E16 Jerry sets up Elaine with a comic friend. Yes siree Bob.
Also in that episode Jerry is put in a lineup of comics to cheer up one of their friends. (Jerry first bombs, then he kills. Ahem.)
In S04E14 “The Movie” Jerry is pestered repeatedly by his “friend” comic Pat Buckles, played by real life comic Barry Diamond. One of several such comics to appear on the show. Another is Dom Irrera who played a prop comic (!) in “The Fire” S05E19.
Right. Wick was the guy in charge of Susan Ross’ memorial foundation.
I remember Mr. Wick as Drew Carey’s boss (Craig Ferguson). Was there a Mr. Wick on Seinfeld too?
Actually it was “Wyck”. As noted, first turned up in S08E01 “The Foundation”. Khaaaaaaannnnnnn!!!
Another example of Jerry’s standing within the comic community was S07E17 “The Friar’s Club” [sic]. Pat Cooper (playing himself) invites Jerry to said club and Seinfeldianisms ensue.
So he is well known enough to be friends with an old school comic, but not yet a member of The Friars Club.
There’s another mention of The Friars Club in S09E14 “The Strongbox” where Jerry is going to attend a roast of Jerry Lewis at the club. He bought a pair of cufflinks worn by Lewis in Cinderfella to have an “in” to start up a conversation with him. So he didn’t know Jerry Lewis at that point but was able to attend one of their famous roasts.
(Note that Jerry Lewis was roasted by them 3 times, in 1971, 1986 and 2006. This episode was from 1998. Jerry Stiller was roasted in 1999, emceed by Jason Alexander. Jerry Seinfeld has not been roasted by them.)
Then a bird ate the cufflinks (thanks to Kramer for putting them in his birdseed!) and died, leading to them having to dig up the corpse, and running into his owners at the cemetary…
