Cover songs that should be shoveds so far up the artists ass...

On her latest album, Dolly Pardon does a cover of Stairway to Heaven.
**AARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!! **

I didn’t care for Lenny Kravitz’s American Woman.

Any of Pat Boone’s covers should be crammed sideways and unlubed.

Especially his cover of Stairway.

Also, Britney did covers of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and “I Love Rock 'n Roll”. Those both also qualify.

Ronan Keating singing “If Tomorrow Never Comes”.

You’re never going to crack America, Ronan, no matter how much you spend on your teeth.
Not even a Dirty Tina smoking record exec thinks you have a chance, so give up.

Never heard of Ronan Keating, but it sounds like that’s a good thing…

As for covers:

  • the Wallflowers cover of Bowie’s “Heroes” was more than a little off
  • Have to agree with Pat Boone - even at the start of his career, when he was ripping off Little Richard
  • That Pearl Jam cover of the 50’s song about the girl dying in the car crash - I HATE that version (not that the song is all that great to begin with…)

You guys have obviously never heard Rolf Harris’ version of Stairway.

It’s so bad it’s funny.

Ah come on now Coldy, Rolf’s a genius. I heard him perform Stairway live on the wobbleboard at Glastonbury '00, and it was a spiritual experience.

Sinead O’Connor’s cover of Nirvana’s All Apologies.

Has anybody heard the Reel Big Fish cover of Take On Me Originally by the Norwegian pop band Aha.Remember them?

Take On Me was the coolest song ever when I was a little boy. I was a bit dumb back then but still…

Hearing my childhood being raped by a goofy ska band is kinda tragic. Goofy ska bands suck.

Eric Clapton’s unplugged version of “Layla”.

Don’t think it technically counts as a cover, but it was the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread title.

faith hill’s wretched cover of piece of my heart.

Superchunk’s atrocious “100,000 Fireflies.”

Just as I was reading this, Britney’s I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll came on the radio. Ugh. Count me in favor of that one for proctolyricoplasty.

I heard someone singing a god-awful cover of Madonna’s “Poppa Don’t Preach” on the radio today. I don’t know who it was. The original was no masterpiece, but the remake was horrid.

Talk about your White Man’s Burden! I cringe every time I see him sing “Tutti Fruitti” and trying to dance.

Phil Collins did a sucky version of “Tomorrow Never Knows” on Face Value.

Madonna’s American Pie.
Ugh.

That would be Kelly Osbourne, daughter of Ozzy and for some reason a Madonna admirer

Speaking of which, anytime I hear her version of “American Pie” I imagine fingernails scraping a blackboard…EEEEEEEEK!

Didn’t Sheryl Crow do a cover of Sweet Child O’ Mine?

Well, whoever it was, it sucked.

No way! I love that cover! I bet I’d like a lot more of Stephin Merritt’s material if it had some live drums and fuzzy guitars instead of all that Casio.
