Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer-Redemption Song (Bob Marley).

I’ll post my two favorites that I post every time this topic comes up

While My Keytar Gently Weeps
Lemon Demon

Comfortably Numb
Ani DiFranco and and Dar Williams

If you really like cover songs, start listening to the podcast Coverville. I can’t recommend it enough. Nothing but cover songs and usually with some sort of theme.

With reference to the above, Elisa with Redemption Song.

Also Elisa with Halleluja.

Cowboy Junkies, One.

This Mortal Coil, Song To The Siren

Approach with caution. The sadness level in this one can drop a grown man inside one verse.

On the flip side of the Johnny Cash coin, I really like Live’s cover of ‘I Walk the Line’.

Also, Myglaren, thank you for the lovely Cowboy Junkies link!

I’m in-between films at the European Union Film Festival so I can’t link directly, but I think most of these I posted are really good:

Liz Longly - Moondance

Girl In A Coma - Walking After Midnight
Nina Gordon - One More Night

I’m not a big Radiohead fan so Easy Star All-Star’s Paranoid Android cover was a revelation.

As is their No Surprises.

MiM

Train in Vain redone by Annie Lennox, originally by The Clash

Something About You redone by Anthony David, originally by Level 42

(nobody likes the Level 42 remake except for me, because apparently there’s something wrong with black people doing a white people song instead of the other way around.

Radar Love redone by White Lion, originally by Golden Earing.

My Sharona redone by Veruca Salt, originally done by The Knack.

Jimmy Buffett’s cover of Van Morrison’s
Brown Eyed Girl

Patti Smith’s Because the Night smokes Springsteen’s. For that matter, the Pointer Sisters do a better job with Fire than Bruce does, too.

OK, folks. Please enlighten this not-with-it oldtimer.

What is a “cover song”, and how is it different from a regular song? I see this phrase all the time on YouTube, without a clue of what it means.

Wiki on “cover song.” It’s when an artist does another version of an already existing song.

And I think Wilson Pickett owns “Hey Jude.”

You know, I thought 10,000 Maniacs was the original artist. :smack:

Add this to the “Wait, That’s A Cover Song??” thread.

Orgy’s remake of New Order’s “Blue Monday” really kicks the original version’s ass.
