This strategy seemed to work for CompUSA. Maybe it will work for Circuit City.
Never heard of 'em.
Who ever shopped at Circuit City anyway? I think I went there twice, and neither time did they have what I was looking for.
It might work as an internet retailer only. Doesn’t sound like they’re going to try to re-open any stores.
In looking at prices they seem pretty competitive at about Newegg pricing.
Is “multi-channel retailer” a codeword for an AMWAY style scheme or something?
Got my current computer from them.
I think it means selling through some combination of online, mail-order or retail (either through their own stores or by offering their branded merchandise in other stores).
+1
Circuit City was a terrible store as far as I could remember, dark, dreary, lack of selection and prices. Maybe it has a good name elsewhere, but with me it doesn’t really seem like a great name to pick up. It even makes Best Buy look like a saint.
And the reason why its so “Newegg-competitive” is because it was bought out by the same company that owns TigerDirect, which is pretty much Newegg and internet competitive.
These are the people who own TigerDirect. I’ve always liked the Tiger.
According to The Consumerist the new Circutcity.com’s return policy leaves much to be desired.
TigerDirect’s website is atrocious. I can see why they’d want to pick up a new brand. Probably got the CircuitCity site for peanuts, too.
Btw, don’t know what the old site was like, but the current one is quite pretty and very fast. Although Newegg still has the best search feature.
The only good experience I had at a Circuit City was smuggling my first, and only, TV out the door. I had a friend who worked there after high school, and he was able to “hook me up” with an employee discount, plus several other shadier “I’ll just type the manager’s code into the computer” type discounts. Good times.
