This doesn’t mean you hate the original, you just feel the artist wasn’t killing the original.
1.“In Your Eyes”
2.“Because the Night”
3.“Space Oddity”
4.“Can’t Hurry Love”
5.“Live and Let Die”

I think The Revolting Cocks version of Do Ya Think I’m Sexy is superior to the original.
The Butthole Surfers cover of Underdog is so good, I’ve coped it onto three different compliation tapes.
Cowboy Junkies doin’ Sweet Jane-I’ve requested that at my memorial service!
Come Together by Aerosmith
Why on earth are all my i’s going astray today? Wretched vowels!
You’re supposed to say, “Hello, my name is jjtm, and I like the Aerosmith version of ‘Come Together’ better.”
At least, that’s how my sponsor told me to do it.
Pet Shop Boys’ “Where the Streets Have No Name (I Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You”). So so SO much better than the U2 version (sorry, I find U2 really overrated and pretentious).
“Little Help from My Friends,” “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window,” “The Letter,” “Feelin’ Alright?” and “Cry Me a River” (among others) by Joe Cocker.
Lol Coxhill’s version of “I am the Walrus”
“Till There Was You” by the Beatles
“Love in Vain” by the Stones
“Running Bear” and “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window” by the Youngbloods.
“Monster Mash” by the Bonzo Dog Band
And, of course, “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” by William Shatner.
Type O Negative’s cover of “Summer Breeze” is very cool, and I also particularly like Collide’s cover of “White Rabbit” (is that the name of the song? It’s the Jefferson Airplane song). Devo’s cover of “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” is interesting, to say the least.
Joan Jett - Little Drummer Boy
snarl
Who did the cover, 10,000 Maniacs, Springsteen or Smith?
Hendrix All Along The Watchtower
So many (and one of those recurring threads)
This masquerade - Carpenters
Blinded by the light - MMEB
Spirits in the night - MMEB
Time - Tori Amos
Song to the siren - This Mortal Coil
Torn - Natalia Imbruglia
Suzanne - Peter Gabriel
Where or when - Bryan Ferry
These are a few that I actually like better than the original.
All Along the Watchtower - Jimi (OK, it’s a bit trite, but it’s worlds better than Dylan’s)
One - Johnny Cash (He’s doing Nine Inch Nails on his next album… would it be too much to ask to have him do Closer?)
Let it Ride - Big Sugar
Hit me Baby One More Time - Fountains of Wayne, Travis, etc,etc (It’s actually a really well crafted song)
Cum on Feel the Noize - Bif Naked (Don’t know if it’s exactly better, but it’s at least no worse)
I Won’t Grow Up-Ricki Lee Jones
Mercury Blues & Werewolves of London-David Lindley
My Old Kentucky Home (Newman, not Foster)-Ry Cooder
You Win Again-Grateful Dead
He’ll Have To Go-Ry Cooder
W-O-M-A-N-Maria Muldaur
Louise-Leo Kottke
Thing Called Love-Bonnie Raitt
Goodnight Irene-Ry Cooder
I Heard it Through the Grapevine - CCR
I Will Survive - Cake
Proud Mary - Ike & Tina Turner
Route 66 - Rolling Stones
Dancing in the Streets - Van Halen
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:
When U Were Mine - Crooked Fingers
Laibach - One Vision
I like Weezer’s cover of Uptown Girl.
Yeah RevCo did that cover and a good choice it is.
My picks are Ministry doing “Lay Lady Lay” (Dylan makes for popular covers)
Willie Nelson doing “Time After Time” (it’s on his new “Great divide” CD)
Pauly Shore doing “Thank God I’m a Country Boy”.
This topic comes up semi-regularly, and I’ve answered it before… I apologize in advance for repetitions:
The Rolling Stones did “Not Fade Away” much better than Buddy Holly did
I prefer Sting’s rendition of “Little Wing” to Jimi Hendrix’s.
The Beatles did “Twist and Shout” better than the Isley Brothers, “Rock and Roll Music” better than Chuck Berry, and “Dizzy Miss Lizzie” better than Little Richard.
Nazareth did “Love Hurts” better than either Roy Orbison or the Everly Brothers.
Rod Stewart did “(I Know) I’m Losing You” MUCH better than the Temptations, and his cover of “The First Cut Is the Deepest” was better than Cat Stevens’ original.
Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart together did a rendition of "All Shook Up’ (with the Jeff Beck Group, on “Beck-Ola”) that was better than Elvis’, and their cover of “People Get Ready” was better than that by Curtis Mayfield or the Impressions.
Joe Cocker’s “The Letter” was better than the Box Tops’.
Linda Ronstadt’s “You’re No Good” was better than Betty Everett’s, and her “When Will I Be Loved” was better than the Everly Brothers’.
Dave Edmunds’ “From Small Things (Big Things One Day Come)” is better than Bruce Springsteen’s.
Deep Purple’s “Hush” is better than Joe South’s.
