Covid booster shots, news and opinion

Apparently the Sam’s Club in the city I work in is only offering Moderna boosters at the moment as it tells you all the available appointments for the foreseeable future are Moderna, so the problem is seemingly solved. I have an appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Done! Got it at 14:15 today. Now it’s 18:10. No detectable side-effects (yet) – not even sore arm. Other side-effects, if any, most likely will happen tomorrow. Based on previous experience, likely to be extremely minor and transient.

I got my Moderna booster this evening. My shoulder is “wanting” to be a bit sore; we’ll see how it goes.

Booster received this morning, no effects so far. I have been given ‘Astrazeneca-3 months-Astrazeneca-6 months-Pfizer’ sequence which looks like it is a little less common… with luck this will prove to be the gold standard for efficacy against Omicron

Received my Moderna booster yesterday afternoon. So far, no ill effects.

Yay. Might need more shots. Well, I’ll take anything they want to stick me with.

I got my booster a few months ago, just walking in and requesting it. I was in&out in five minutes total.

I tried convincing my gf to get hers, but she waited. Then the omicron variant hit the news and she decided she should get her booster. She couldn’t find any appointments before January! So I looked this morning and got her an appointment a week from today.

Yeah, many of my friends are already boosted, but those looking for appointments today are having trouble finding them.

A quick search says that you guys need to come to Arizona for your boosters. Every pharmacy I looked at had walk-in availability for jabs and boosters. I think I’m going to get my second shingles shot Monday, I’ll report back if there is any sort of line behind the sign that says COVID SHOTS.

All the medical systems where I get services, plus county health, plus state health, have been sending me contact numbers and information about boosters (such as “We’re setting up a giant booster station at the fairgrounds/parking lot/university”), so you might try those avenues if you haven’t already. I got my booster in the system where my PCP works.

Got my booster (Moderna) today at a Walgreens. Arm a little sore but otherwise OK. Some issue running my insurance card — stupid fonts where the letter I and the number 1 are not distinguishable.

I can’t get boosted yet – I have to wait until late January. Seeing some people are having problems scheduling, and thinking it might get worse with Omicron coming, I just checked if I could schedule for late January now. I could, and I did!

Good point.

I’m starting to get a bit confused. If we’ve been boosted, are they recommending another one six months along, i.e., a fourth shot? If so, I’d be due for one in mid-February, as I had my booster in mid-August.

I don’t know how the omicron thing is going to shake out, but if a fourth shot is recommended, looking ahead to schedule in February is something I’m going to have to start thinking about soon.

If you are immune compromised and had a “third shot” you will probably want a booster, too. For the rest of us, i don’t think recommendations have been made, yet. And i think it likely we’ll want to get the omicron booster, not another shot of the wuhan vaccine.

If you’re confused by me saying I’m not eligible yet, it’s because I have to wait 90 days from my monoclonal antibody treatment back in October. I was due for a booster while I had an active Covid infection, then had monoclonal antibody treatment, which pushed it out 90 more days.

As @puzzlegal says, no more shots are recommended so far, unless one has a compromised immune system, in which case it’s a third shot, then a booster.

ETA: On another note, I was able to schedule a Moderna booster while saying I received Pfizer initially, so that seems to have been updated on their website.

Maybe this has already been mentioned; I didn’t think it was enough of a big deal to start a new thread, but here goes.

Earlier today, I heard on NPR that in South Africa, when the last couple of waves emerged, they temporarily halted the sales of liquor to reduce the burdens on emergency rooms, so they would have beds available for COVID patients. One wonders how well that really worked.

Interesting. In Colorado during the first wave, the governor elected to categorize liquor stores as “essential businesses”, because of the fear of a bunch of detoxing alcoholics adding to the emergency room burden.

I got boosted with Pfizer today. I also threw in a flu vaccine for good measure.

So far, all I can report is mild injection soreness. And the wifi on my phone has never been better.

Meanwhile, my immune system is going all Kung Fu on those spiky little bastards!

Got a Pfizer booster yesterday, following up on the 2 Astra Zeneca shots I had last spring. Ned to get a flu shot as well. Arm’s a bit sore snd I’ve tired easily today, but that’s about it.

I got my booster a few months ago. I just walked into the grocery store and asked at the pharmacy, two minutes later I was done.

My gf waited a bit, then when she went to the grocery store pharmacy she learned she needed an appointment and there was a three week wait.

She got her booster yesterday (Pfizer) and her arm is sore this morning, but no other problems.
