Just report it. This is exactly the kind of thing I was under the impression the Dope was cracking down on; hopefully if enough people report someone will notice.
Also, anyone surprised to hear that Trump is planning to invite these kids to the white house?
Laura Ingraham claims that the Covington kids have been invited to the White House. First, nobody at the White House has confirmed it, second, why aren’t they back home in school, and third, why?
Read opposing views. Learn recipes in the Pit. Poke my head into a few of the other forums when I have something, on topic, to add. I don’t usually post to just say me too or answer questions satisfactorily answered.
You forgot bitching about swearing in the forum where swearing is allowed when you have nothing of actual value to add to the conversation, shit-for-brains.
I hardly think what happened here, based on what I could see (and the fact that the kid, or anyone I think, was arrested on such a charge) was menacing. And what in the everloving fuck is it with “my” white supremacist cops? I said characterizing the kid as a thug wasn’t fair, and FTR, neither was it fair in the Trayvon Martin case either. Jeez.
Exactly. Especially since the waters have now been so muddied with all these varying descriptions and videos with what happened. The whole thing is a sorry mess and shameful all around. But worth destroying someone’s life over? Fuck no.
I can’t imagine doing so either, but that’s because I wouldn’t be there in the first place. Once you’ve got it in your head that it’s okay to take kids to wave fetus pictures in someone’s face, you clearly don’t think it’s your job to help them avoid confrontation.
I guess I feel like if the situation is so dire that you literally can’t let 16 year olds out of your immediate sight for 30 minutes, you shouldn’t be there at all. If they aren’t safe unsupervised, they aren’t safe supervised.
You’re still wrong to assume that a 16 year old couldn’t write like that, and to assume that the fact that a PR firm had a hand in it means that it’s not true.
Again, the kid is a MAGA dipshit, but every video backs up his account. Even Phillips’s statement backs it up.
Just poking a little fun at our right wing friends, who would have thrown that word around with abandon. I don’t really think he’s a thug (though I do think he’s an asshole)
Disagree. Josh Marshall at TPM: I’m sure there was some element of being startled or even confused. Few of us are ever thinking only one thing in a chaotic situation. But I see no way to reconcile Sandmann’s claims with what’s actually on the video. He can be seen hipping and hawing around Phillips like the rest of the kids just before the stand off and he seems more cocky and defiant than anything like trying to appeal for calm in the video that went viral. Eyewitnesses claim they heard the boys making various denigrating remarks about Native Americans. I heard some of those on the video but not all of them. Phillips and Sandmann gave conflicting accounts of whether Sandmann refused to move as Phillips tried to walk up the steps. At least the video itself makes it hard to resolve that.
…But again, I don’t think Sandmann’s explanation is credible. I think he decided to stand his ground, get in the guy’s face, and smile a kind of satisfied smile to show he wasn’t backing down. Meanwhile, his friends are surrounding both of them, goofing, taunting, jeering. Again, the chopping hand motion tells the story. When someone is moving from point A to point B in a crowded public space, you step aside. I’m surprised this even needs explaining frankly. The steps were behind Smirkface: the teen was blocking traffic. Now again, teens do stupid shit. I’m dismayed by the lack of remorse or reflection in the PR assisted public statement.
I didn’t bother reading 90% of this shit. I got to the point where you admitted you didn’t bother to stick up for Dr. Ford, and then I stopped. The rest, I assume, is pathetic rationalization of your complete failure to uphold the principles you claim to uphold, and then more whinging about how I don’t pretend to uphold the same principles you don’t uphold.
The way I see it you have three choices here: 1) you can continue to whinge about how other people don’t pretend to believe in the same principles you pretend to believe in (your current course), 2) you can go actually act on your supposed principles, then next time you get challenged you can triumphantly point to the post you made defending Dr Ford from the actual internet mob (this would require effort on your part), or 3) You could fuck off with your pretend outrage.
The steps at the Lincoln Memorial are approximately 100 feet wide. Plenty of room to pass around the targeted teenager, and proceed to the top of the steps, IF that had been the intention of the old man, and his entourage. It wasn’t. It appears that the old men, and his entourage, were looking to create an incident that would give their cause some airplay. Thanks to the usual racists, Democrats, and lame stream media-types, they hit the jackpot with the help of the usual mob mentality.
Every video of this particular incident shows the teenager standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The teenager didn’t say a word to the old men, or to his video recording entourage. Better luck next time.
