CPU typing problem. Help!

Howdy!
(1)
In China using the wife’s Sony Viao laptop computer.

I have a problem with it(1). A bout every ten letters and spaces, the cursor jumps back into the text. Just now as I typed the word text, the cursor jumped back to the beginning of the paragraph, or a random space in the text. Or the computer will jump to the bottom of the window.

This is really annoying to say the least. No one key does this (cursor jumped back before No) it just does it randomly. Thankfully, this is not my primary computer. I think my beautiful wife kept the computer in a hot car or another environment. It’s just annoying and want to see if it can be repaired.

Help!

Chances are pretty good you’re brushing against the touchpad as you type. Try putting a credit card or something on top of it and see if that helps.

…and give your beautiful wife a kiss on the cheek and an apology.

Yeah sounds like a touchpad issue. I turn off the “click by tapping” on mine or I’d never get anything done. It seems kind of redundant when there’s already a button nearby anyway.

I agree. I have mine set up to turn off if a mouse is plugged into a port. You can test this by seeing if you experience the same behavior in a few different apps.

I despise touchpads for this very reason.

Most also have an option to turn it off while you are typing. I always used that.

FN plus F7 usually turn off the pad

Maybe on your computer it does. AFAIK there’s no standard key combination; how to turn off the touchpad (or whether it’s even possible at all) varies widely among laptop models, even those of the same manufacturer.

Just for good measure, I agree that it sounds like the touchpad. It was happening to me a lot and I didn’t even realize I was anywhere near it. I turned the touchpad off and no more jumping cursor.
