I’ve noticed a common theme, mainly from a couple of SNL skits but also from other places that having a cracked screen on your phone means that, well, you don’t quite have it all together. Is that really a thing in real life? From personal experience it just means to me that the person in question dropped their phone, and for the record the screen on my iPhone is pristine:)
For example: Dunkin Donuts - SNL - YouTube
Cut for Time: Date in Mexico - SNL - YouTube
It’s no different from having your glasses taped together.
It means that you are indifferent to how something looks, as long as it is functional.
In the US, that means that you are a cheap schlub, as opposed to a thrifty, practical guy, like myself.
The idea is sometimes used to classify someone as down on his look who can’t afford a new phone. Sometimes it means someone is careless or klutzy, or even just unlucky.
Or it means nothing at all because it happens.
