Cracker Barrel changes logo and stock declines

Will they change their Haggadah so it says “…who brought us out of the apartment of bondage”?

We now have a dedicated thread on the Maxwell House “rebranding” = “Lame attempt at viral marketing”:

Maxwell House coffee changes name to “Maxwell Apartment”

I bet Prophet didn’t see that coming. :joy:

I’ve seen it reported Cracker Barrel also signed with Viral Nation, and Blue Engine.

So, it turns out that I know someone who was a consultant at Prophet for a long time. I worked with him at my first job; he was in brand management. Despite the fact that this guy had an MBA, and has made a career out of being a marketing consultant, he struck me as absolutely dumb as a post, and lacking any creativity or insight. Whatever he might be good at, coming up with good marketing ideas isn’t one of them.

So he’s probably risen to senior management at this point.

…42.59….

Is nothing sacred? Nothing eternal. Next you’ll tell me that Montgomery Wards is gone and that political conservatism has changed. Gaah!

…$39.34…

To be fair, the stock market, as a whole, tanked today, in response to Trump’s announcement of new tariffs on China, on top of the ongoing government shutdown, and the news that a large number of federal employees are being fired.

So, today’s decline was likely not entirely due to investors’ discomfort with Cracker Barrel’s business decisions.

Oh true, there’s always that systematic risk in play. Good point.

Not entirely
Only mostly

so…tuna of the land?

$28.48!!

$25.40! How low can they go?

I hope a lot of hard-working laborers don’t get laid off. All because some corporate bozos made foolish decisions.

I don’t think corporate were bozos or foolish - there was no reasonable way the could foresee nutbags going crazy over a logo redesign and changing market direction and twist into some political objective against their values/America as a whole. To me, this is seemingly a freak occurrence/black swan. Well, not necessarily nutbags, there were opportunists involved in the start of this, too.

Did this really even happen, or was it a publicity stunt from start to finish?

And in Corporate Missteps — Cracker Barrel Division, we have an update:

Cracker Barrel took black-eyed peas off the New Year’s Day menu:

I gather, as an uninvolved Canadian, that black eyed peas have deep cultural significance ?

Eating black-eyed peas brings good luck for the upcoming year.

It’s a Southern and Soul food tradition.

I like them and eat on New Years and throughout the year.
