Cranberry what?

In the numerous threads talking about Thanksgiving dinner, we’re seeing the usual side chatter about cranberry jelly vs. cranberry relish. Let’s decide this once and for all!

Yes, two options only: there’s no gray area here, folks, it’s one or the other!

Early days and my side’s already losing. :frowning:

I’m going to be very curious to see the results on this!

I like the homemade stuff, but very few people I know do. My money is on the jelly winning by at least a 2-to-1 margin.

Probably voting with what they grew up with. Even though I grew up with the jellied stuff from a can, my wife makes a scratch relish with cinnamon, orange and cognac that is to die for. I voted relish.

right now it’s 12/10 for relish. We do a cranberry orange relish for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Cranberry relish, but not from scratch, the local grocery store has one in the deli department that’s loverly.

I wouldn’t call what we use a relish (though there is a lovely recipe I will try one of these times…) but it’s certainly not canned! Canned stuff is too sweet IMO.

Both.

Neither.

Jelled cranberry doesn’t have to be served in can shape. That’s just laziness on the hosts part.

But what about canned whole berry cranberry sauce? The last time this topic came around on the guitar I posted of my appreciation for thoughtful home made cranberry relishes, and my nostalgic love for the shimmering, quivering holiday jewel that is “jellied cranberry sauce”.

I predict relish snobs will win. C’mon folks, it’s an anonymous poll. BE HONEST.

Ridges: condoms AND cranberry sauce. FTW!

I’d prefer my Mom’s cranberry salad (with fresh cranberries, jello and other stuff).

But the the purpose of the poll I’ll go with fresh cranberry relish since that canned stuff is an abomination.

I did the same poll a year ago. It comes out about 50:50, with much snobbery from the relish folks.

It’s a dead tie right now. I went for from the can with ridges because it’s what we’re having this year, but last year I made a fresh relish with oranges and walnuts. We alternate, depending largely on who’s going to be with us. This year it’s just the two of us and we both like the jelly, so… ridges it is!

Looks like the trend’s reversed this year, with many of the canned fans accusing the relish fans of snobbishness without them saying much at all.

I prefer my cranberry jelly with ribs. Out of can.

Potato chips have ridges.

As far as I can tell, I’m the only one that accused the relish folks of snobbishness. So at the moment it’s 1-0 on that front, because I don’t see any snobbishness in this thread anyway. It’s hard to reverse a 50:50 split though.

Ruffles have ridges, other chips don’t. At least from their ads.
