Cranial complaints

I thought I’d keep this out of GQ as there might not be a ‘factual’ answer to this one, but perhaps any dopers in this field of expertise could shed some light on this.

For the past year or so I’ve been noticing rather distressing pains, kind of like a headache, only with more dizziness, which seem to be pretty much constant, although at times it is more noticeable than others (at night especially, for some reason). If I down an aspirin the bizarre sensation will cease for a short while, only to start again when it wears off, and I don’t want to be constantly popping paracetamols for obvious reasons.

So, what’s going on in there?

I may as well be the first to say it:

Go see a doctor!

There are far to many things that can make your head hurt for us to even try diagnosing without seeing you.

I have, I wouldn’t be asking otherwise. Trouble is, they still don’t know what the problem is after various blood tests and scans.

Do you have high blood pressure? Take any medications? Any allergies? Does it seem like the barometric pressure affects it? Had your sinuses checked out?

No to all, and I don’t do drugs before you ask.

It never crossed my mind to ask if you’re on drugs.

The headaches plus the dizziness hints at a sinus infection, which could be viral, bacterial, or fungal- but viral usually goes away by itself. Have you had your sinuses x-rayed?

See your doc again or see a different doc. Keep a headache diary of all the things you do and eat and drink and note when the headaches occur and when they change and any other symptoms, and take this diary to the doc.

Playing 20+ questions on a message board with people who cannot examine you in person, or study the results of the tests you’ve already had (and are probably not qualified to do so to begin with) may on infrequent occasions yield some useful info, but the overall signal:noise ratio is horrifically poor.
