If it’s anything like my Subaru, it’s at most a two minute job to replace and the price varies widely (my mechanic found one for $30.00 while his parts store wanted $100.00 for it). Wouldn’t be surprised if you can get 'em cheap at the junkyard for a car of that vintage.
My estimator book lists the crank sensor replacement at 1.4 flat rate hours, so I’m sure there’s some disassembly involved to get to it–no 2 minute job on this one. See if a Haynes manual shows the procedure, then you can decide if it’s something you’d feel comfortable tackling.
Well, the estimator books are maybe a bit pessimistic – I think it was supposed to be 0.8 hours for my car and the procedure was literally pull out the wire, undo one pretty accessible bolt, remove, insert new one, refasten bolt, reattach wire.
