Okay, okay, car, here - take my money

Back in Feb. '03, I had a minor fender bender. Well, minor to the other guy (who suffered a scratched license plate). I ended up with a destroyed front bumper, crushed A/C condenser, and a crushed radiator.

Since my money was apparently no good in town, I had to perform all the repairs myself. Except for recharging the A/C system (which I just had done a few weeks ago), I think I did a pretty good job. Except for the black bumper on a silver car, you’d never know anything had happened. Earlier this summer, I noted the cooling fan was making an awful racket. The frame had been cracked in the accident, but, since it still worked, I secured it as best I could (That would have been an extra $150 to replace).

In the past 3-4 weeks, I noticed the sound had changed from flapping plastic sound to a grating motor-is-going-to-die sound.

Today, whilst tooling about, the temperature gauge was rapidly inching towards the “you need a new engine” side of the dial. I pulled over and let it cool down for about 20 minutes.

I’ve been putting off replacing the fan until now. I called around town to the few parts places that aren’t on my shit list, but after 15 rings, I gave up and ordered one online. This time it was only $96 delivered. Thankfully, this will be a breeze to replace: three bolts and one electrical connection.

I’ve been trying to get my credit situation under control, but this will cause a minor delay.

Oh well, waddya gonna do?
