Crap, this sucks...

Back in August, I had a pretty rough horseback riding accident where I cough injured my bum pretty badly. Since then, I’ve been off and on various medications. I moved back to VA two months agoand went to see the doctor who discovered that what they’d been doing to me previously was wrong, and so he started me on a new course of steroids. He’s also had me on a non-narcotic pain med that I take 4 times a day.

Well, my prescription ran out yesterday, and I’m out of refills - I only took 2 pills as compared to my normal four yesterday. I had decided NOT to get another prescription as I’m still having some pain, so I figured that I would go back to see him as soon as my new insurance comes into effect later this month. Bad move.

I didn’t realize that this stuff is physically addictive and that my body is used to taking it. About an hour and a half after my scheduled dose this morning, I started getting shaky and irritable and pissy. I recognized this as withdrawal, as it’s happened before when I’ve missed a dose or gone a day between refills. This feeling SUCKS ass. I feel like things are crawling under my skin. My head is spinning and I hate my co-workers.

Luckily, after digging in my purse, I found a spare pill nestled in the bottom of my purse. I’ve bitten into it so that I only took half of it, and I’m going to try and go as long as possible without taking that other half. And my doctor is OFF this afternoon, othewise I’d get him to call in the prescription for me so that I can wean myself off of these damn things instead of going cold turkey and hating the world.

I hate this. Unfortunately, I deal with an anxiety disorder and depression, and have spent several months weaning myself off of alcohol and pot - not that I overused them - I drank maybe 1-2 a week and smoked even less, but I quit because I knew that they didn’t help my disorders. Now I feel like I’ve traded them in for a doctor-prescribed addiction.

Ava

Ick, good luck there Ava, it is horrible to be without your meds, and especially horrible to be without ones that you hate taking but have to have. FWIW, a friend of mine injured their bum horseriding before, something to do with their tailbone, the coctyx or whatever it’s called? Might they have dislocated it? At any rate, in the end the doctor stuck their finger up her bum and popped it back into place like you would a dent in a car door. Dunno if that is useful information to you, if not maybe it provides a giggle? All the best.

Even though your doctor is off, he should be able to re-fill your prescription. I’d give him a call. You don’t want to be feeling all crappy just because it’s Wednesday!
