Crappy weather deflates BC Place stadium.

This just in – [link w/ pic]

The snow is really wet, and the winds are really high – and BC Place looks even more ridiculous than ever.

(It ordinarily looks like this.)

Makes me larf, it does.

“Crappy weather”? I ain’t buying it. It was actually Clumsy Carp’s fault, wasn’t it?

Sure hope Peter and the Fat Broad are ok.

Yikes. This is going to cost big bucks to fix. No one was hurt, thank goodness.

Some fella got video of it, but I haven’t seen it, as I’ve been a work all damned day,.

Crappy weather did it? Come on over to Victoria. It’s been an “interesting” winter here.

Oh, my. We Canadians really don’t have the best of luck with those stadium roofs, do we? sigh

I saw the video. It just shows a small section flapping in the wind.

After the hole developed the stadium workers deflated it.

Does the thought that you’ll be paying tax money to fix it make you larf too?

If it is any comfort similar deflations have happened in other stadium with inflatable ceilings, such as at the Minneapolis Metrodome

I don’t know how expensive the repairs the the Metrodome were but I think the benefit of the inflatable roof over the rigid dome (like the New Orleans Superdome) is the lower cost of maintenance and repairs.

The roof came with a 25-year guarantee, so it won’t be too bad.

Not significantly worse than the nearly two million per annum that the provincial government already spends maintaining the fecking marshmallow-in-bondage, which only serves to keep the rain off sparsely-attended CFL games and car shows. Bleh.

Anything that raises awareness of what a poor investment this is is fine by me.

Pffft. Because of that, the final night of the Six-Day race at the Burnaby Velodrome was canceled-- it’s covered with a similar kind of dome and something about concerns and whatever sky-is-fallingness. A long drive for nothing.
