Minneapolis Metrodome roof collapses

Due to snow.

Good thing there wasn’t a game going on. The Giants-Vikings tilt had already been postponed to Monday 'cause the Giants couldn’t make it into town. Who knows when they’ll play now.

Perhaps if it has no bearing on the playoffs, they’ll simply cancel.

The Giants are very much in the playoff race, so this game matters quite a bit.

I think this is about the 4th or 5th time that the roof has collapsed because of heavy snow. Did the engineers/architects not think that Minneapolis would get heavy snowfalls?

No, but the football gods have spoken that it’s a travesty that what would be one of the best places to play NFL games in the winter would fucking hide from the weather. Pussies. Forfeit the fucking game due to your domeitude.

I wish they’d just announce that the game would be played in Detroit. I’m setting fantasy lineups based on that.

This x 2

So does this pretty much tie the bow on the Vikings move to L.A.?

As a Giants fan, one of my nontrivial concerns is that this will give the Giants a short week next week against the Eagles. If the game is pushed to Tuesday, they should move the Giants/Eagles to next Monday night.

Obviously none of this matters to the Vikings, who of course suck this year.

Game moved to Detroit.

Shocker. Pussies.

First Monday Night NFL Football game in Detroit in almost 10 yrs.

IMO, the irony meter is red-lining!

Looking at Detroit weather, it’s not a guarantee the Giants’ plane can get in there today either.

Let 'em just take the damn bubble off the roof ientirely, let the snow and the cold in, and they’ll be fine. Let the Vikes get back to the days when teams were afraid to go there - they’d all huddle around the heaters for survival, while the Vikes just stood around in their short sleeves, icicles hanging from Bud Grant’s nose and chin … now THERE"s a home field advantage. They gave it away by moving indoors and haven’t been consistently a playoff team since.

Kinda like the Chargers coming to Phoenix for a Monday night game when the fires in San Diego forced them to.

I’m guaranteeing Detroit will not lose on Monday night! You heard it here first, folks.

They didn’t really have any other options. The university stadium has been shut down for the winter and won’t be ready for a game for a week.

They’ll find a way.

And Detroit will score at least as many points as its last appearance on MNF!

(I was at the 35-0 embarrassment by St. Louis. They never even got close enough to attempt a field goal.)

Fox just showed “exclusive” of the roof collapsing from inside the dome. It looked pretty scary. Geez, what would have happened if this happened if they were playing a game with a capacity crowd.

Thinking the game was going to be “inside” the NY Giants did not bring their cold weather gear.

And Viking field option #2, is the stadium at the Univ of Minnesota. Apparently is not prepared for a NFL game on a couple of days notice.

I think the risks of collapse are pretty well known. I doubt the game would have been played if there was a chance of collapse.

Which makes me wonder why they designed a structure like this in Minnesota.

Here, here (or is it hear, hear? I don’t care)! I have been advocating for YEARS that the Super Bowl needs to be played in Lambeau Field.

Play in weather, ya giant overpaid babies. Get frostbite while you’re catching passes. Drown in cold rain puddles when you get tackled.

I would pay a lot of money to recreate the Ice Bowl.
